I've recently been planning a trip to an undisclosed location, but while researching the aforementioned undisclosed location, I realized that it's really hard to find a really good place to eat in a foreign place unless a local can recommend one, so I had an idea for a thread. What are some eateries in your city (or another one that you're familiar with) that you would recommend to a visitor? If enough people post to this thread, maybe we can get some kind of database for people traveling to other parts of the world. As if...
In San Francisco there are 3 places I would definitely recommend: Tommy's, Dottie's, and Cancun.
Tommy's Joynt is a Hofbrau on the corner of Geary and [nobabe]Van Ness[/nobabe]. It has excellent food every day, daily specials, and a HUGE (100+) selection of beers from all over the world. It's not too expensive: $15 bucks gets you dinner and a *****.
Dottie's True Blue Cafe is a breakfast place on Jones between O'Farrell and Geary. Their omelettes, scrambles, toast, and baked goodies are top notch. It's fairly pricey for a breakfast joint, with the average cost of a plate running between $9 and $12 bucks.
Taqueria Cancun is a Mexican taqueria on the corner of 6th/Taylor and Market. Nobody in SF makes carne asada like Cancun. Their Burrito Mojado, nicknamed the "baby killer" due to the fact that it's so heavy that if it were dropped on a baby it would **** it, is a rite of passage for anyone working on the stage crew at the Warfield Theater across the street. It's moderately priced, with a burrito costing about $6.50.
