The Pixies are not grunge... More in common with 80's Husker Du, Sonic Youth and Dinosaur Jr.

Grunge is a vastly overrated genre. Alternative rock is for people never listened to Post-Punk or got into alt music in 1990.

I'd be willing to bet that at least half of those who voted for Alice in Chains have either never heard of Mudhoney at all or, if they have, they couldn't name or even hum/whistle one of their songs.

Why are some of you arguing what IS and ISN'T grunge.

Why do you care?

It's music. What difference does it make what label is put on it?

Gotta go with STP. Although Soundgarden was a very close second. Alice in Chains is great. Nirvana, good, Foo Fighters, better. Pearl Jam...I didn't like anything they did after their first album, sorry.

Stone temple pilots? Don't make fucking laugh.

That band was a rip-off.

Scott couldn't sing, all he could do was imitate other singers. Notice how his vocals changed after their "come-back"? Vocal coaching.

It's not terribly IMPORTANT what label is on it, but sometimes people like to compare different varieties of one thing (favorite type of apple, beer, pizza, sports car, etc.), and since the purpose of this thread was to compare bands within one genre, some will question or argue some of those included as the given nominees to the title of "favorite" (best).

Rick Astley is not grunge. Pig Destroyer is not teenie/bubblegum pop.

Nirvana is my favorite grunge band, simply because they have the most songs that I like. I also liked most of the others listed, except I didn't care for Pearl Jam that much. That said, grunge was always secondary to alternative for me and my 90s were ruled by the Smashing Pumpkins.

one thing is for sure,Hole and Courtney Love would've never gotten any attention.

True, if Kurt hadn't died, Hole wouldn't have gotten as much airplay. I am glad that Kurt helped them get onto a major label before he died. At least Hole ended up getting airplay, because I am a big fan of Hole's music. I really wish their break had occurred somehow else and Kurt would still be alive though. Sure, without the popularity gained in Kurt's death, I may never have heard of Hole. But I'm sure there are a lot of bands I would LOVE whom I've never heard of. Just wanted to suggest that although Hole rode on Kurt's coattails into popularity, it doesn't mean that they were undeserving.

I think they're arguing semantics because the subject of the topic necessitates it.

I hate grunge music, but I do like Alice In Chains though. Layne Staley, what an awesome voice!
