Even If You Do Believe In God?

Conspiracy...
I think it is hilarious when people say, "if you believe, that is cool too. That is your right" when refering to Christianity. But mention Scientology and people talk **** and make fun of it and bring up Tom Cruise like they think they are original or something. Anyways...

Whats the difference between "believing" in Christianity or Scientology???

L. Ron Hubbard was a Science Fiction writer, who wanted more money.

He even admits that is the one and only reason he created Scientology.

L. Ron Hubbard quotes:
You don't get rich writing science fiction. If you want to get rich, you start a religion.

The incident is stamped indelibly in my mind because of one statement that Ron Hubbard made. What led him to say what he did I can't recall — but in so many words Hubbard said: "I'd like to start a religion. That's where the money is!"
L. Ron Hubbard to Lloyd A. Eshbach, in 1949; as quoted by Eshbach in his autobiography Over My Shoulder: Reflections On A Science Fiction Era (1983)

Y'know, we're all wasting our time writing this hack science fiction! You wanta make real money, you gotta start a religion!

I always knew he was exceedingly anxious to hit big money — he used to say he thought the best way to do it would be to start a cult.
Sam Merwin, Editor of Thrilling Science Fiction magazine Winter of 1946-47; quoted in Bare-Faced Messiah, The True Story of L. Ron Hubbard (1987) by Russell Miller

I use this line when it comes to religion or the existence of a god or gods.
No Proof No Truth.

Let's just say they can't prove there is a god, but you can't prove there isn't. :dunno:

It will eventually be proven whether or not there is a god, if not in our lifetime then maybe a couple of hundred years from now. There are things that I don't beleive in personally like the big bang for example despite the fact I'm atheist, since when it is a mandatory thing that if you are atheist you must beleive in the big bang? The big bang is like a god at the end of day, no proof that it happened, just a theory.

******?
Can't you just take this to the original God belief thread? What a waste of front-page space.

I guess the people that believe in him care. Am I the only one that doesn’t see a relevant point to the original poster's question?

yes i have. the evidence is all around us. just my 2 cents as i wont be back in this thread. i dont have the energy for another theological thread.

"Evidence is all around us"?

Well... like you said, that's your 2 cents. Of course, if your mommy and ***** had raised you to be an atheist then you'd have a different opinion.

That's the problem with 'believers', they just believe what they were told as a ***** and refuse to question it because of stubborness, stupidity or both. That keeps them ignorant. But instead of calling it ignorance they call it 'faith'.

Once a person questions religion, they figure out that 'God" is just a fabrication.

Truth is, man created God in his own image. Not the other way around. It's so obvious.

I think I said this before, but has anyone ever met a person that was raised as an atheist or non-religious that later decided to believe in God that either wasn't on *****, in jail or near death? can't say that I have. It seems that only people who are susceptible to coercion or thinking irrationally buy into it.

The secret ingredient? MY BALLS
I agree that there are way too many "belief in God" type threads, so I am going to say this here, as I believe it fits this thread the best...

There are literally thousands upon thousands of different religions, proposing the possibility of thousands upon thousands of different gods and goddesses. Which god is THE god? Which goddess is THE goddess? Which religion is right? Which religions are wrong? There are no answers to any of these questions, and I will tell you why...

Religious people don't live their lives for their respective god(s); they live their lives for society. Just like a trend, religions are born and religions die. Practices of an individual religion don't last forever; none of them ever have. For whatever reason, society dictates what religions are "right" and what religions are "wrong". As the times change, so do our religious beliefs and practices (as a society). For example...

Remember Greek Mythology? Greek Mythology is a serious religion that was practiced by countless Greeks, years and years and years ago. Endless dedication was shown through the construction of temples, statues and cities, the sacrifice of ******* and personal comfort, and through a number of wars, defending the honor of the gods and goddesses of Olympus. The exact same can be said for Christianity, but, now-a-days, even though Greek Mythology is just as serious of a religion as Christianity, people talk about as if it is nothing more than a cool story. Not a religion; a story.

If you practice Greek Mythology and dedicate your life to serving Zeus, Athena and the rest of the gods, people will probably laugh at you if you told them about it. Why? Because, the "social acceptance" of Greek Mythology as a religion has long been gone.

There will come a point in time where the same happens to Christianity (and other religions); like it or not.

There was a time where people feared Zeus and the repercussions that would follow if they didn't serve him. People worshipped Zeus just as people worship Jesus; dedicating their lives to please Zeus and his desires. Now, Zeus has been reduced to nothing more than a fictional character who appears in movies and video games. Sad, but true.

With that being said; in regards to the "proof" that God exists...

Just like beauty, the "proof of (a) God" is in the eye of the beholder. Some consider it proof when they **** up in the morning. Some people consider it proof when their cancer goes into remission. Some people consider it proof when their childs life has been spared. Then, there are people who will only consider it proof when God, himself, appears in front of them.

When the time comes, all of these people will have the proof they need; enough proof for them, as individuals, to truly believe that God exists.

Yeah, but even if "God" appeared before you, would you really believe it? If you say that you saw God, I'd say "so what?"

I saw Chris Angel perform all the same tricks that Jesus did, and the dude also got ran over by a hummer on a bed of nails, walked through the air between two 10 story buildings, and escaped from a coffin inside of a wood chipper. So what am I supposed to believe?

It's time to accept personal accountability and do away with the scolding of a deity. This is sure to offer only a lifetime of excuses.

You, Sir garrison, are in control of your own destiny. Move away from a home where you don't feel comfortable, rid yourself of those in your environment who may proselytize.

It's all yours ! Isn't that nice ? :)

Absence of proof is not proof of absence. ;)

While we're on the subject, why do non-believers immediately get tagged with the word "atheist"? Atheism is the belief that there is no god, and is therefore a religious position. What about people like me, who just don't care? :dunno: :wave2:

To the faithful, belief is sufficient for them...

I've been asking this question for ages. :o

From my perspective, I will have to disagree with you, I don't see that non believers tend to get tagged as atheists. Atheists, in general (not all) tend to let it be known.

To whom do you address ? From where is this negative emotional stimuli derived ?

Who cares? Have you any evidence of him??

I can't believe all the negative reps I received about this post. I am sorry, I just tried to provoke thought and discussion since I admire many of the posts and opinions here.
I will cease to start god discusssions since it seems to upset many. Apologies.
