Given the tone of the map, I'd say it was more an American view of the world .....

Those are more accurate. It's not a real European map if it just categorises all of western Europe as one thing.
It's only a real European map when it's slagging everybody else off.
We Europeans hate each other.
A European map made by the Germans would show:
England: Still think it's WW2.
French: inefficient, but they live like Gods in their country.
Italian: More inefficient than the French.
Russia: Innefficient and insane. Avoid.
Sweden, Holland, Denmark and Switzerland: Responsible for mangling of German language. Must be cleansed.
Greece: Inneficient, economy covertly under our control.
Austria: More of us.
