It's funny what some people consider humor.
Would it have been as funny if I had posted a bunch of pics of toothless, drunk braggarts at a football (soccer to the US) and called them Europeans?

Not funny and in bad taste IMO, but that's all it is MO :2 cents:

...The more an individual is able to laugh at him/herself the higher his/her self esteem, and the more receptive he will be to humor interventions. Being able to laugh at oneself requires a solid level of self esteem and a strong self concept.

I can laugh at myself and often do but there is humour and bad taste.I'm sorry but this falls under the latter.I live in the England and do sometimes poke fun at other countries but it's usually in good taste like we took stick over losing to Northern Ireland at football recently. But we tell Irish jokes so fairs fair. This isn't because your trying to make fun of a problem and it's not funny as we all have them.

:wtf:

I also count Americans among my friends - but I wouldn't dream of using tasteless stereotypes as "humour" - or pre-judge an entire nation because of the action of its leaders.

You've already had one thread closed because of your particular sense of "humour" (and believe me, I was VERY restrained in my response to that item!) - looks like you're aiming for a double...........

Well what we see now is funny ;) And it is true. You can just watch the static. If you look pass the insult and look clear you can find it funny ;) - I dont feel bad when people insult my country, if the thing is true (But hey, you cant say anything bad about DK:1orglaugh

It's easy to take offense by what VROMOS pretends to pass off as humor. I personally closed one his more offensive humor threads, but that is another story...

As for the case in hand, I was offended by the onslaught of stereotypical images he choose to share with us. Had it been one image maybe it could be dismissed a good 'Ole clean humor, but he chose to continue posting more and more pics. When I saw them I immediately thought "He must have enjoyed this" as if it he meant it as an insult. That must have been evident to others as well.

I am a first generation American and love this country with all of my heart. That doesn't mean that I turn a blind eye to the evident inadequacies it may have, but rather that I love it for what it represents.

"This country was not built by men who relied on somebody else to take care of them. It was built by men who relied on themselves, who dared to shape their own lives, who had enough courage to blaze new trails with enough confidence in themselves to take the necessary risks.

This self-reliance is our American legacy. It is the secret of that something which stamped Americans as Americans. Some call it individual initiative, others backbone. But whatever it is called, it is a precious ingredient in our national character".

I would have never chosen to offend or insult a nation or it's people, by promoting stereotypes.

The debate of america vs europe is a complicated one. For example while both are a collection of smaller parts, states vs. countries, I dont recall europe ever being so smug as to believe the could solve the worlds problems alone. Or failing to note that the rest of the world even exists outside its borders. Of course neither are perfect as a millenia of history will support.

Some examples might include,

In american history world war two started in 1943. Funny thing that.
Despite no matter how many games the england cricket/football team lose, soon as they win one they wont shut up about it.
When was the last time you saw a native american proud of whats happened to his status in his own country.

These are amongst the few I can think of in the short space of time Ive allotted myself to post. But in future if Americans and Non-Americans wanna get into ap issing contest abouthow great there country is, for shit and giggles or for a serious debate. Try looking at your own country before trying to compare it to someone elses!

I understand the point of your post, but if you're going to attribute dates as facts, please be certain of their accuracy.

World War II officially started on 01 September 1939 when Adolf Hitler blatantly disregarded The Treaty of Versailles and invaded Poland in his conquest for power in Eastern Europe. World War II officially ended on 02 September 1945 when the Japanese signed surrender aboard the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay after the initial surrendering of Japanese forces on 15 August 1945, following the United States' dropping of the two Atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in early August.

However ... America did not become "officially" involved in WWII until 07 December 1941; the day that Japanese suicide bomber squadrons (known as 'kamikaze' - The Divine Wind) commanded by Vice Admiral Chuichi Nagumo carried out a surprise air raid on Pearl Harbor Naval Base.

Prior to that, the United States of America was peripherally involved through the "Lend / Lease" program through which the Allies could pay for supplies in cash and then transport them in their own boats.

Also ... I must say one thing about this particular thread:

It serves absolutely no point other than to inflame and incite dissension. I happen to agree that vromos most likely joyfully created this this thread in order to needle and make fun of a certain group of people.

So why not use the proper and approved means of expressing dissatisfaction with the thread itself? Just don't abuse it.

Aside from that ... I care nothing at all about how my adoptive country is potrayed in some juvenile miscreants' mind and deluded thinking. I know her [my country] for what she is ... faults and all. And she is mine.
