It's not the economy that makes NY expensive to live in, it's the cost. Not just the city but throughout the entire state. Tax on clothes, 40 - 60 cents a gallon more for gas. Property taxes. Food prices. Rent. Auto insurance. I was born in NY and lived there half of my life. Here I am in NJ and would have to make another $80 per week just to move back and break even. I know since I have family there and they want me to move back. It just doesn't pay. NJ isn't looking so good and PA may be worth the move.
Sure NYC has the best of everything but it comes at a price. 18% parking tax in NYC. Bridges were to close the tolls once they were paid for. Never happened or ever will. $6 each way to cross a bridge now. 11 casinos open and no relief for anyone in the state.
