These polls aren't fake. The thing is since France isn't a two-party system, there are about 10 to 15 candidates to each presidential electioons. Only a handfull of them have a chance to win but still 5 is more than 2.
On the first round Macron, who was the one who had the more votes, had about 25% of the votes, which means that only 25% of the voters had choosed him for President.
Also, since Marine Lepen was on the second round, a lot of the people who then voted for Macron voted in fact to make sure Marine Lepen wouldn't be president. They would have voted for nearly anyone who would have been against Lepen in that 2nd round.

And there's the fact that our currnt Constitution was designed specifically for De Gaule and grants a huge power to the President, so people see him as some kind of miracle man, hoping he's gonna solve all the problems. I don't have any datas about this but I'm pretty sur our "congress" are much more popular than the US congress.
