I got this idea for a thread from a reply to porn/download/theft
People worried for an industry and loss of income.
JOBS-
I was working as a printer in a job I liked and due to changes beyond my control things changed and I was laid off after working for 12 years.
People lose jobs due to changes in technology, ways of doing things, computers, automation.
The particular thread was about porn and people downloading it for free and some losing jobs and income.
I am not sure but some porn is 5 min samples apparently free to drum up business- probably forced to compete with others.
People need to get used to changing jobs like I did when I lost my job in printing. I was laid off due to cheaper labor availability, computers and printers needing to change things to compete. For 16 years I looked for positions as printing was dying off and less people being needed.
I accepted less pay from job to job and got laid off when businesses closed for various reasons or scaled back there production. (ie lay off a shift or department etc.)
Companies layoff people all the time and lose a valued person and get a new person less qualified and knowledgeable but at a lower wage and somehow get by.
People are thrown out of a chosen profession or job that they like due to no fault of their own.
It may start w a few layoffs and jobs tougher to get and wishing you were one of the people working (the people working hoping they do not have to be one with out a job)
You may want to do your old job even for a fraction of what your used to making and even then you are unemployed
Finally your out side looking in- and shit out of luck and unemployment checks ending.
FINALLY you decide to do something else in a diff field.
In porn the internet causes changes in how people get porn.
At madonalds I predict automation will replace some workers as 15 dollars / hour makes it cheaper to invest in automation.
expensive oil made it worth while to start getting oil from tar sands.
printing needed less people with less catalogs being printed, printing in countries other than usa and of course cheap illegal immigrants providing cheap labor that can be trained.
PEOPLE need to get ready for new employment as life changes.
Life will wash over you and flush you out like a piece of trash.
