PHOENIX (AP) — An 84-year-old Arizona man says he survived five days in the desert by eating dinner leftovers and straining window washing fluid to stay hydrated.
A helicopter spotted 84-year-old Henry Morello on Saturday north of Phoenix.
He had been missing since Feb. 7.
Morello says his sport utility vehicle got stuck in the dirt after he missed his exit on Interstate 17.
Friends say Morello told them he used floor mats from his car to cover up during the cold nights and used a napkin to strain windshield wiper fluid from the vehicle to keep himself hydrated.
Friend James Sheehan says Morello is a survivor, and that's why he survived.
Morello was recovering at a hospital.
