WWE is taking some extra precautions now

With the recent passing of Eddie Guerrero and the suspension of Eugene, it is definitely time for WWE to step up to the plate. A meeting will be held later today informing the talent of the new policy. This comes on the heels of Major League Baseball stepping up their policy as well. The media will no doubt pick this up and likely tear it apart but it can be considered as nothing but good for the state of the company.
In a joint meeting today with the Raw and SmackDown rosters in the United Kingdom, in Sheffield, Vince McMahon announced that within the next several weeks, a new drug testing policy will be implemented in which performance enhancing drugs, such as steroids, etc., recreational drugs, as well as abuse of prescription drugs will be banned.

In addition to the new drug testing procedure, there will also be an emphasis on cardio vascular examinations.

The specifics of the drug policy will be announced over the next several weeks. More details to follow. Check with wwe.com for the latest information.

It's great to hear that they are taking the initiative on drug testing.
The injury or worse, the death of anyone to drug use is sad enough.

WWE: Eugene suspended by WWE in the middle of UK tour
Wrestlemag.com @ 10:41 am

WWE.com have this morning issued the following statement:

Nick ‘Eugene’ Dinsmore was rushed to the hospital last night in Manchester.

He has since been released from the hospital, sent home and suspended indefinitely. WWE.com will have more details as they become available.

Dinsmore took part in WWE’s RAW brand house show last night in Manchester, England at the MEN Arena, losing to Rob Conway. From what we can gather from sources we’ve spoken to this morning, there was an incident at a hotel in Manchester late last night between Dinsmore and a fan in the hotel bar.

Here's what happened:
Last week in Manchester, England, Nick “Eugene” Dinsmore was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital after he was found passed out in a hotel lobby.

After regaining consciousness, Dinsmore admitting to taking Somas and other prescription medication. As a result of the incident, he was sent home from the WWE International tour and suspended indefinitely.

Since returning home, Dinsmore has agreed to seek professional help. He flew to an undisclosed location, where he will spend the next two weeks being evaluated at a drug rehabilitation facility.

Sad, but you have to give the guy a break. Not only does he have to play out the Eugene gimmick on tv, but he also has to keep it going anytime he is in public.

Thanks for the clarification.....

Yeah, its really weird to think that he's gone. I saw him in a house show in June and laughed my ass off at his antics. His career in the WWE has pretty much been the marker for my re-awakened fanatisism; he came into the WWE at much the same time I was getting back into pro-wrestling in general.

Its gonna be really strange without him on Smackdown any more.

As to the wrestler on death-watch; I thought it was Kurt Angle. He's been told numerous times to quit, lost his wife and kid through staying against doctor's orders and looks like he's having a brain hemmorage every time he gets in the ring...

Damn, this tragedy has even touched the porn world

From NinaMercedezXXX.com

"I feel like this week is the first time I have actually had time to sit down and watch some of my favorite shows. Speaking of which, I saw a few Sundays ago Eddie Guerrero from the WWE passed away. I have been watching Eddie for so many years I was so upset about him passing away so young. I did watch the shows the following week where they did "Remembering Eddie Gurrero" it was heart breaking. "

We will truly be missed by all

I hate to be corny, but to quote Carlito, "That, thats cool:thumbsup: :) "

Alright lets get something straight. I read through the topics and sorry I havent posted for a long time but I have been busy for a long time. Anyways Eddie didnt just have the heart failure because of his past with drugs. It played a roll no doubt but he could still be alive if he didnt overwork himself. His wife said that his job put so much pressure on him that his blood vessels became weak and narrow. She also stated he was getting tired but she thought it was just work so she didnt think of anything serious.

Eddie was my favorite wrestler and may he rest in peace.

Some news on the drug policy

Impact Wrestling:
Although the consensus is that drug testing is in the company's best interest, few WWE wrestlers believe it will actually be a long-term, fully-enforced policy, reports PWTorch.com.

"That'll last as long as it works to Vince's favor in a PR sense," one wrestler said. "Look at the roster. How many guys would they have to suspend if they really test everyone for steroids? It's a little overambitious sounding to me."

The wrestler also believes that the diehard mentality of wrestlers prevents the lifestyle problem (which, in many cases, could result in drug use) from easily being solved.

"Wrestlers won't ask for time off unless they're about to die," he said.

There are, however, some wrestlers who are legitimately nervous about the policy, fearing either losing size due to loss of steroids or having a major addiction problem revealed to the industry.

Effective today, February 27, 2006, WWE is implementing a broad WWE Talent Wellness Program. The Program has two components: 1. an aggressive substance abuse and drug testing policy, and 2. a cardiovascular testing and monitoring program.

The Substance Abuse and Drug Testing Policy (“Policy”) prohibits the non-medical use and associate abuse of prescription medications and performance-enhancing drugs, as well as the use, possession and/or distribution of illegal drugs by WWE Talent. The use of masking agents and/or diuretics to conceal or obscure the use of prohibited drugs is also prohibited. This Policy will be administered by Dr. David L. Black, Ph.D., D-ABFT, D-ABCC, of Aegis Sciences Corporation, Nashville, Tennessee. Dr. Black will be responsible for scheduling Talent for testing, administering collection of samples, coordinating secure shipment of samples to the testing facility, determining whether any WWE Talent has tested positive and directing the appropriate penalty be imposed.

Under the Policy, WWE Talent may be tested on a random and/or reasonable suspicion basis. The initial test of all Talent will be considered "baseline" testing. No discipline will be imposed for a positive test on the baseline test. The results of the baseline test, if positive for any prohibited substance, will be utilized thereafter by Dr. Black to determine if use has continued. After the baseline test, subsequent positive tests for non-medical use of a prohibited substance will result in disciplinary action. For testing positive the first time, a Talent will be suspended for 30 days without pay. A second positive test results in a 60 day suspension without pay or, if Dr. Black so determines, in-patient care at a substance abuse facility, during which the Talent also will be suspended without pay. A third positive test results in termination.

The cardiovascular aspect of the wellness program will be handled by New York Cardiology Associates P.C., led by Drs. Post and Feuerbach. Under this aspect of the Program, all WWE Talent will undergo an extensive cardiovascular stress test. Examinations and treatment will be conducted thereafter as warranted.
