E3 - What's got you interested?

I don't know if I'm buying the hype of switch.
Even Ninty is calling is their new "home console", because they want to drop the WiiU ASAP like a hot turd.

The problem with that is there is a BIG difference in portable games and consoles. Yeah, it's not a big deal for games that are simply ports, but look at the 100% portable games. They're the ones that use Streetpass, the touch screen, motion controls, etc. That stuff that doesn't work on console games. Switch won't have a dual screen so I can't see it being backward compatible.

The only saving grace is that Ninty isn't calling Switch a replacement to the 3DS, although there is LOTS of debate as to whether that is the case. personally I don't consider the ability to play console games outside as true "portable" gaming.

The portability is a freebie, I think we should all consider it as a home console first and foremost.

Which is why I can't get excited about it. Ninty's consoles have been consistently underpowered compared to the competition and have to rely on something innovative to set them apart. The ability to play on the go isn't innovation to me. Heck, the Vita even had that.

What's really concerning me is if Switch is supposed to replace the 3DS. THAT would suck. Portable gaming is what kept Ninty alive, and console games are not the same as portable ones, especially ones that utilize the dual screen. The fact that they are ditching that basically means that 3DS games won't be compatible on switch; so either they keep both lines active or they're going to kill off dual screen portable gaming.

For some reason I'm just not seeing this as a portable system in any way. The 3DS has been a solid system, I would be surprised to seem them phase it out. I don't see that happening anytime soon to be honest. I guess time will tell. Has Nintendo actually said this is a replacement?

You know what I'm excited for though? What comes AFTER the switch. I have a good feeling about this transition.

As far as I'm concerned it's not a portable system either. It's basically a version of the Playstation vita feature that lets you play on the go. The games that are made for it will be made for a console audience, and there's a big difference.

As for what comes next? That's really looking ahead, but depending on whether ninty decides to consolidate and phase out the 3DS and just make mobile games instead, I might actually be done with them. After the clusterfuck that was the WiiU, the switch is either going to make or break them.
