Merry Christmas Freeones D&D thread guys!
i got some dice! and that fancy vinyl cheesex mat!
One thing I did with a vinyl mat in the past was bought some overhead projector sheets with it since you have to use those type of markers on it anyhow. That way before the game began I could lay it on it before hand, draw out some select places, a building, or something else my players would face later, and then when the time came I could just lay it out on top of it to quickly shave a minute or two having to draw it out. It also allowed for the rare event I needed more than one later to show stuff and I could just add thing under or over the projector sheets.
Just a warning though, don't let water or any liquid get anywhere near those sheets. It doesn't take much to screw up all that drawing you did ahead of time.
I'm also thinking about to getting another mat, but this one is one of the paper ones that is incased in the same plastic restaurant menus come in. It's supposed to be able to handle a wider variety of markers while being cheaper, although it's probably not as durable. If I or the people I play with ever get a couple of old laptops between us I would almost think about using a mapping tool to show maps and putting it on a monitor they could see and where they could control their character, but that's a ways off.
im wary of those pound of dice deals. i mean, i wanna get some but some of those dice are so uggy sometimes. one day, perhaps. but yeah, i still like my white on black. those are the dice i got with my my first d&d set, the redbox re-release for 4e.
I found a plush Cthulhu dice bag while searching the Internet for RPG stuff. It was a bit pricey though.

Link?!
NEVER use anything but water based pens and NEVER use anything other than water. Be careful when using red, that likes to sink into the matt. NEVER leave the ink on the matts either.
Check out the paizo flip matts. You can get some with just the grid but I've gotten sand, forest, grass, and a tavern since I was introduced to them. Savage Mojo also has some that were done by Aaron Avacodo and a few other popular artists who are featured in Wizards products but I've noticed the matts my friend bought that works for them aren't holding up like the Paizo matts and I think those Paizo matts are going on 4 years old and have been used to death by both him and I (when I forget my matts at Conception).
I always have one with me to write down the initiative in games that use it because all it takes is a wipe to get rid of it.
The cool thing is, they stand up to wear and tear, you can use permanent marker, highly transportable and it doesn't ruin the matt if you leave the ink on it (very nice if you want to pre-map).
(sigh)It looks like your going to make me do some work. :1orglaugh  After some searching for some place that sells it though I did find it again at RPGshop http://www.rpgshop.com/d-and-d-dice-and-bags/dice-tray-and-pouches/cthulhu-dice-bag.html
I thought about some of those pre-made maps, but I don't have a gigantic amount of players I play with and it would get a bit repetitive trying to force the same map into situations that involved whatever was on it. Plus I like making my own maps. I just need to get good at making them on the computer, but all the mapping programs aren't easy to learn or aren't that intuitive, and doing it on photo takes a long time. Until then they will just have to use their imaginations with quick drawing in black and white. I guess that's one of the advantages of running a full pre-made adventure though. All the important maps are usually done for you.
If Anders doesn't have any dice, does that mean he constantly gets the "loner dice" from somebody when he plays? :1orglaugh
The people I play with are lucky. I actually let them borrow good sets in different colors, or at least with different color d20s so if they have more than one attack they don't have to roll more than once. I still need to get more dice bags to hold smaller amounts on the other hand. It makes it easier to hand them out.
I kind of like the clay spider. It has a certain friendly looking charm about it, and you got it to sit up on it's legs.
We're playing vampire right now, so only d10s. He uses mine (that I play with myself) because they roll well. None of the other players will touch them. *shrug*
The only thing about letting Anders use my d10s though is the fucker throws them on the floor and then they skid under the couch. Since he startd playing, I have less d10s. That's ok though, in about 27 days he's going to meet Bob the Diceman and he can replace what has been forever lost.

Your nicer than me. I would stop a game until the die is found, especially if it's mine. :1orglaugh. They learn to keep them on the table. I bet it gets really hard on your vacuum cleaner after a while.
So does Bob the Diceman run a side business along with his usual activities?
Oh, and with the lost dice? Eventually the cats dig them out again. Mwahaha.
Ummm...I hope you get to retrieve them before the cats eat them instead of...ummm...afterwards.
