I predict video games are heading to a point where almost every game will be downloaded and we won't physically own a game anymore (no discs, cartridges, etc), the hard drives just need to get a little bigger. So what would you guys prefer? Downloading or actually owning a game physically?

The downside I see to downloading is if something happens to your system, all your games are lost. (I'm sure companies would have some sort of tracker to see what you've downloaded to perhaps reimburse)

I still prefer to own my game physically, but I just don't see anything stopping the downloadable way

Most gamers prefer to own discs, so I don't think it is going to change anytime soon. Just look at the PSP Go; Sony thought gamers wanted to download all their games; it turned out to be a massive failure and embarassment. Downloading games will probably become more popular and be considered a different way to buy games, but it will never replace physical games.

I like to have the hard copy of my games (and movies for that matter). Downloaded games take up too much space on the hard drive and then what if the hard drive crashed. I don't mind little games like XBOX Live Arcade games; but when it comes to main games, I want the disc.

Blu-ray foreverrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

i don't like digital as they can get corrumpted or deleted, etc

also i like the game boxes

Once downloading becomes quicker, I'd like that. I'd imagine a game like Red Dead Redemption would take forever to download.

I prefer to own the case and disc, along with the instruction manual.

I love buying a new game, opening it up, and smelling the new game smell.

You sumed up everything I was thinking lol.

I'm the type that goes to a place like GameStop and if the game doesn't come with a book or if the case is all busted up and not the original I will not buy it no matter the price. I have my standards in game packages. :o

I usually buy all my games on Amazon. Usually the used games I get off there are in great shape. Only time I got a head and get a game without a case and/or the manual is when its something thats hard to find (like when I was looking for my copy of Monster Rancher 4).

I buy games off Amazon too and I read all the fine print. Only time I was ever upset was when I bought both Tony Hawk Underground games and they came in crappy condition after it said Very Good condition. I sold them to GameStop the one I got $1.70 for and the other was $0.35...

Damn that stinks. Only problem I ever had was when I was trying to get Pokemon Platinum. I got 2 fake copies of the game. The seller refunded my money and I bought one direct from Amazon and had no problems.

Well considering the one game I spent $1.75 and $0.99 on both of them it was ok. I don't care. Those games sucked anyway.

Speaking of Monster Rancher, I'm wanting to check that new one out on the Wii.

Wait, never mind, I meant Monster Hunter...

I havent tried any of the Monster Hunter games. I have been thinking about getting one tho, its always nice to have more good games for my psp lol.

Monster Hunter Freedom games? That is the only one I am seeing for the PSP. I don't know much about the PSP.

I'd prefer the console. I am a new one coming to the Wii with Monster Hunter so I shouldn't be too jaded with past titles.

It looks fun. Almost like a Japan like Diablo of kill and collect and forge, rinse and repeat. :)

I dont think downloading would be very easy as the games these days are getting more realistic & complex, which therefore means the file sizes would be huge & take time to download and a lot of space to store & backup. Discs are the way at the moment.

and we are talking about the future

Oh definitely. Say you have 20 some games and your hard drive dies (and at some point it will). Its probably going to take you a week to 2 weeks to download those games again. What a hassle that would be.

I also prefer discs.
Things can go wrong during a download. It can get interrupted, the download can become corrupt, the harddrive can become corrupt. What if I downloaded Cities XL from Monte Cristo and they went bankrupt a few months ago (which they did)? One company (EA) even tried making an installation limit on one of their games (Spore) - so, even if they companies did keep track of your purchases, you would almost be guaranteed of having your downloads very limited.
