Does videogame artwork affect wether or not you buy a game?

im sure its a consistent factor in purchasing almost everyone.

for me, i dont care what they drew on the front. but im pretty selective. i buy things i know i will like already. its too expensive to ****** on. having actual gameplay screenshots on the back is what i care about. but, they can be misleading.

with so many cgi cut scenes being showed, you can pop that fucker in and be disappointed.

Good point. It is best to have some background knowledge of a game you are going to buy, rather than taking a risk of spending $60 for a piece of crap.

Not for me. I don't go out and just buy a game randomly without knowing anything about it. There might be times where I've never seen a game before and the cover art may intrigue me but I'm going to go home and research the game before I go back to buy it.

The one who buys a game for it's artwork is a fool.

It depends on the game and how well the visual elements inside of it mean to me. Some games the graphics are more important than others. Just the cover art itself though I don't care that much about...

....although a game producer that just seems to mail it in or doesn't care enough to put good art out for the game would make me wonder if they carry that lack of caring to the other parts of the game in general, especially considering the cover art is such a ***** cost compared to the rest of the product for any modern video game. (Unlike say a book where the artwork associated with it can very well be one of the biggest cost required to make it, and you can realize why some people might skimp on it.) It can be a ***** red flag for people about the rest of the game and it's quality. After all if they don't give a damn about that what else might they not care about with their game?

Sure it plays a role to some degree. I remember one game, for example (Borderlands), I picked up in the store and thought the cover art looked like shiitty comic book graphics so I didn't bother with it.

Six months or so later I caught some gameplay vids here and there and thought it looked pretty good and ended up buying it. It turned into one of my most played games that I'd ever purchased.

I've usually made a decision as to whether or not I will buy it before even seeing the cover.

It doesn't make-or-break a purchase for me, though obviously I prefer good cover art just like I prefer good movie posters and DVD covers over bad ones.

I always know pretty well what I'll be getting quality-wise. With the internet and television, it's pretty easy to do your research before hand and know if a game is awesome or not, and whether or not you'll like it.

ive been purchasing my games lately by walking into the store, spinning around 55 times until im really really dizzy and then running around with my finger pointed outwards and then i buy whatever i touch first and then i ask to pay double the price.

It does for me. When games look good and realistic then I am probably in for someone trying to be arty and realistic instead of making a good game.
