Like it or not, it's a pandemic. This is the world right now. Historically, this was bound to happen again...and it will again in the future. Nobody listens to the doctors and health professionals. They are divided on many issues where COVID-19 is concerned, but they all agree on one issue: a mask will protect you and more importantly others. How much it protects us is one of those debatable issues I mentioned. But it does protect us...and it beats not wearing one, which many people do while using that lame-assed excuse that not wearing one is okay because they [health professionals] really don't know much about this disease. Hey...neither do you. So, not wearing one is okay in your professional opinion? If you are incapable of sacrificing for others, at least think of the possibility that you just might be helping yourself.

Not really. We should've contained this virus in China. What started there should've ended there. No excuse for a virus to start in one country and then spread all around the globe. It's simply disgraceful to see how this virus spread the way it did. Amazing how the human race has come so far with knowledge, technology and medicine, yet somehow, we couldn't control this virus. And yet we still can by simply wearing a mask, but too many people feel they have a constitutional right now to wear one. And as long as people continue with that attitude, we will never get through this without a vaccine.

As a matter of fact, I have a "Mask Required" sign taped to my front door.

I don't care if if makes me come across as the bad guy and the sign as saying, "Wear a mask ... or leave." When I go to someone else's house, I'm gonna wear a mask. So, I expect the same courtesy here.

BINGO! Exactly, Da Dude! There's been an epidemic of "that's unconstitutional" going around in recent times.

I was even thinking just the other day --- Let's say instead of a Covid Pandemic, there had been a huge SUPER Volcano erupting that contaminated the atmosphere all to shit with heavy volcanic ash. Then the government mandated that for our health, we were required to wear face masks. With people's attitudes nowadays, many would apparently prefer to DIE of volcanic ash inhalation rather than accept being mandated to wear masks. Or as they would put it, "Violating our constitutional right not to wear one."

So I've been thinking in recent times that unfortunately, the "Freedom / Liberty" that we have enjoyed here in the USA has been a huge contributor, a gigantic hindrance to getting a handle on Covid-19. People just feel it is their constitutional right to do as they please because it's been drilled all along that it's "The Land of the Free."

What I don't get is why this is the sword they want to fall on.

Was there this debate when:
-You had to start wearing seatbelts?
-When the TSA could search your bag or your person literally at random?
-When the TSA could take a virtually nude picture of you?
-When you were told you can't light up in a non-smoking area?
etc

There are tons of examples where "constitutional rights" have been "infringed" for public safety, and basically all of these are far more intrusive than wearing a freaking mask. And yet I don't recall this much pushback, especially when these measures could immediately save both your and the lives of others. Was it the case back then, or have people become dumber over time?

It's not just your imagination, tvstrip. There has NEVER been this level of pushback with the various changes, situations, new norms that have been tossed our way throughout the years.

People having gotten dumber / stupider over time? In this case, apparently yes.
But, I don't think that's all that is at work here.
Wayyyyy too many people have gotten Bitching Happy --- Protesting Happy --- Rebelling Happy and acquired a major case of entitlement. A new type of Baby Boom has materialized. People have become Big Babies ... always crying about EVERYTHING.

Like over here in family circles we're so sick & tired of dumbasses and their ubiquitous mantra of "I Pay Taxes." For everything they don't like and want changed to their specifications, they just have to annoyingly declare, "I pay taxes. This NEEDS to be changed / fixed."

Anyway, there is also politics and a lot of agenda-izing in an election year going on. A certain political side is doing everything they can to create resistance, trouble and chaos even at the risk of playing Covid Routlette.

Maybe I'm just not reading this right or I'm just tired ... but I don't think you can get the virus from wearing a mask. As long as you take the necessary precautions.

Can I get a clarification here? Do you mean "but too many people feel they have a constitutional right not to wear one." It just makes more sense ...

A mask won't 100% protect you from getting the virus, but it will help. A medical grade N95 obviously will give the best protection, but even homemade masks will help if BOTH the infected and non-infected wear one. I think the popular explanation is:

If you wear your mask and get close to someone infected by covid without mask, yes you can get the covid my friend.
If both have the mask so the chance that you get infected is extremely low.
Be careful, stay away from the dumbasses who don't wear their masks.

Yes I meant "not." My bad with the typo.

Don't get me wrong, a mask is not a 100% guarantee that you won't get the virus. BUT it will slow the spread considerably. One thing is for sure... Florida, Texas and California wouldn't be in the mess they are in right now had EVERYONE wore masks.
