Do you think religion shouldn't be used as a political argument ?

Do you think Presidents, Ministers, Secretaries, Representatives, Senators, candidates etc. should put religion aside when they are in office ?

In other words, do you think religion should never be a political argument ? Do you think a candidates to (any election) using his religion as an argument should be questioned about his religion by other religions believers and by atheists ?

Do you think "God say so" or "It is written so in the Holy Bible" is a valid answer to a political question ?

It absolutely is not. Every political candidate must acknowledge that his or her religious beliefs, while they help to shape him/her, are not validation for their political positions. They must acknowledge that ever citizen's religious beliefs are exactly as valid as their own, or they are not upholding the rights of those citizens they want to govern. And the argument "the bible said so," is absolutely unusable. The bible also said to stone certain people, shall we bring that back? There are lots of things the bible says that are simply not applicable to modern times, and no one gets to pick and choose which parts support their campaigns, as it will be possible to use other parts of the bible to discredit those same campaigns.

Talk about relevant topics. Talk about policy and finances. Talk about what you are going to do. Let people know the religious positions you hold, if you must, but don't make them part of your campaign.

And a startling number of Americans think that they are somehow "God's nation," and it makes me want to cry. Fucking ignoramuses.

I'm watching some specialist videos
In the multi-cultural society in which we live, religion MUST be kept out of politics.
There are enough wars being fought and historically have been fought over religious views that we should have learned by now that religion does not belong in the political arena.

Mr. Daystar

In a bell tower, watching you through cross hairs.
You mean that little thing we call, "The separation of church and stater"....even though it really isn't.

There's clearly a separation of church and state in the establishment and free exercise clauses of the First Amendment. Everyone's free to practice what they please and no one gets special rights because of it.

At least in America and places that have faith it should be part of every process.

Yes. ;)

No, you fucking dimwit. You want people to agree with your religious views. You don't want Mitt Romney, as a Mormon, to dictate policy with his religious views. You want people who you agree with on religious points to make policy. When someone you don't like, regardless of their religious views, makes policy, you'll simply disagree.

I'll point out that the current President is a family man who goes to a Christian church. You don't like him, so you call him various things, like Muslim. You don't want him to exercise his faith while making political decisions, even though he's a Christian man.

You're so fucking hypocritical, it is hard to believe. What a fucking douche you are.

Whenever The Asshat of the Year uses the facepalm that's his secret code that he's got a gerbil up his butt.

Wich faith ? Wich religion ?
The religion of the President ? The religion with the most believers among the people ?
What about people who do not share this religion ? What about atheists ?

When religion starts to be a political argument, it's the first step towards theocracy...

Religion is the bane of human society

It is not the salvation of the species but it's downfall

Religion has no place in politics

Keep it in the church, mosque, synagogue or wherever

Just keep it out of politics or anything else that involves policy making

Why the facepalm, you fucking dimwit? Is it because the party you're most likely to support has a Mormon as its leader? Are you comfortable with his religion being the religion that dictates the policy of this nation for the next four years?

Way to engage in discussion. You are a waste of fucking skin.

Will, Sam and fatfish are too collectively stupid to come up with coherent or thoughtful posts which contain more than 20 words, have not been cut and pasted from somewhere else, or do not contain pictures.

I made up a rule a while ago which seems to hold true: Democrats want to control your money, Republicans want to control your lives. In attempting to enforce a singular vision of religious rule on a populous, that becomes even clearer.
