Do you think Luongo would be a good fit in Toronto?

Would Luongo be a good fit in Toronto?

He's an automatic upgrade over anybody on the roster and would be their best goalie since Cujo.

However, I think Luongo would be a better fit in a smaller market like Edmonton. He isn't a pressure goalie

I think he's a good fit, and I think he'll be a good pressure goalie, actually.

But, let's face it. He's going to Toronto to die. Nobody expects playoffs in Toronto.

The only thing I differ with here is that as blood thirsty as the Toronto hockey market is, Luongo will play well wherever he goes. He was treated like shit in Vancouver (Yeah, he'll take you to the finals, even record shut outs in said finals, have two bad games and everyone will start chanting for a very unproven goaltender). The last time us Toronto fans have seen good goaltending was Ed Belfour (in his first couple of seasons with the Leafs). After that it's been garbage (I mean Raycroft), Toskala, Giguere (who I like but never played well), Gustavsson (who in all fairness was under Ron Wilsons "sit a goalie after one bad game" rule) and Reimer. Reimer still has potential, but Burke saying he will go with Reimer and Scrivens this year, two unproven goalies, is how he loses his job halfway through the year. But to get back on track. If Luongo shows up in Toronto and plays decent hockey (let's say .905 save % and 2.55 or lower GAA) , he'll be welcomed and praised. I know I want him there!

He'll play well, but all it is going to take is 1 or 2 bad playoff performances, or even not making the playoffs and those praising fans will be heckling his name every game. It's Toronto we're talking about here. Almost as bad as Montreal.

So it's pretty much certain that Toronto is out of the Luongo sweepstakes? Reimer and Scrivens are career backups and were drafted to be just that. They'll both have a few great games, and fans will act like they have the next Roy, but then they'll shit the bed. Gustavson was their most talented goalie. The only thing he lacked was heart. lolololol C wut i did thar?

With Luongo they would make it. The only reason they didn't last year was because Gus couldn't hold a third period lead when Optimus was out. I'm interested to see how JVR will perform in Leaf land...hopefully it's a good change for both him and Schenn. Without Wilson coaching will help too. I hated how he treated his players, especially the goalies.

I don't think Toronto is out of the running, Vancouver just wants too much without absorbing a big contract back (Komisarek's most likely). If Gillis wants to run with an unproven goalie (Schneider) then he'll eventually give up Lou and whatever team gets him will get some quality and the Canucks will fall in the standings because they handed the reigns to a backup.

Edmonton or any Canadian city isn't a good place for a player that can't handle pressure. Plus, as an Oilers fan I don't want him on the team. He needs to go someplace where hockey is an afterthought like Florida and belly-flop all over the ice there.

It's not like the Oilers have any goalies in their system that are half as good as Luongo.

Roberto Luongo... Roberto Luongo... is he a Stanley Cup goalie? There have been others I've wondered about throught-out their careers before they ended up winning that series and yes I do think he'll finish with one. You may gather my answer from that. :)

Why not, will he make a difference no.

Last I'd heard, the only team that was still in talks with Vancouver was the Panthers, and that they weren't even that interested at the current asking price.

Honestly I feel for Luongo. I actually think he seems like a decent guy, although all goalies are nuts so he might be an asshole.

I don't know where the best fit for him is but Canadians are notorious for harping on their NHL squads. South Florida might actually be a good fit for him. Maybe he would actually be a good fit in the place he never should have left, the Isle. Bleacherreport thinks maybe:

I used to like the guy until he started running his mouth in the finals a couple years ago. After that I had a marvelous time laughing at him as he choked harder than any goalie I've ever seen.
