I work in a pediatric emergency department.
I see sick, hurting kids by the dozens in a typical shift. Fixing them all up and making them all right is what I do.
Do I love my job? Yeah!
Sure, sometimes we get a child too sick or too hurt who ends up dying. Talking to the parents after that is always, always hard

And sometimes we have to explain to kids why their mommy or daddy won't come back (usually fatal MVAs)
Sometimes we have to deal with
irresponsible, clueless parents. Or call the police in because of suspected rape, neglect or child abuse.
But I get my hugs and kisses from tiny tots to awkward teenagers and that helps cope with the stress.
On my days off, I also volunteer (at times) with my local paramedic service. As a senior with over 15 years of experience, I'm mostly assigned to the rookies. I love to teach and I get to do it everyday - from difficult intubations and unassisted deliveries to 'how to safely cross tarmac which is slick with blood, ice and oil' and 'effective braking of the vehicle on country roads'.
cheers,
