Do You Drive The Speed Limit?

Speeding in the city is stupid because of stop lights/signs. Plus cars that are driven hard stop and go are the ones with leaking gaskets of all types.
Setting your speed limit however between Milwaukee and Chicago on I-94 will get you run over even in the right lane. 75 is the norm over the 65 mph speed limit and both state troopers allow 80 in the left lane as long everyone there stays in a line. The idiot weaving in and out gets tickets.

My rule is that the real speed limit is 20 km/h (about 12 mph) higher than whatever is posted and that is what I usually drive, conditions and traffic allowing of course. Been driving that way for 32 years now, no at-fault accidents, just a couple where morons ran into me. My opinion is that speed limits are set for what people who can barely handle driving should go, not for people with any kind of experience. Where I live, the cops know this and slow us down other ways like adding unnecessary stop signs and traffic lights where they have no business being. **** that.

I am not a proponent of speeding. But we will happily take your money if you keep insisting on doing it.

It's just the reverse in Texas amigo. City streets are so busy that you either drive with the flow or get pushed into the bayou (that's "creek" to you Midwesterners). Cops leave you alone as long as the traffic flow is undisturbed. Besides, I'm not talking about going 60 in a 30 zone through some residential neighborhood. Going a bit over the limit on regular city thoroughfares is what I meant. On rural interstates and tollways, 75 or 80 is the normal speed limit and if you stay in the right lane, you cruise right through. And my car is in excellent condition even though it belongs to my company. I haven't had a speeding ticket in over 20 years.

In residential areas, I take it easy. On the interstate, I admit, yeah.... I am that guy. I am sorry. But it's not my fault (doesn't matter what that last judge told me). I have an illness... a sickness... an addiction. I need help, not punishment. I deserve sympathy, understanding and pity, not scorn and finger-pointing (usually with the middle finger). Will you shed a tear for me? Will ya? Won't ya? :******:
That didn't work, huh? Oh well. Just another example of sexism, if you ask me. My ex-fiancee ([NOBABE]Salma Hayek[/NOBABE] clone with 36D's) could get caught going 20 mph over the limit in a school zone and she'd just cry on command and sob just enough to make her boobs jiggle and she'd get let off with a warning. Me? I ended up having to go to court mandated driving school after being asked by a judge if I liked walking. Heading to VIR in the Spring for an advanced driving course though. Me at a racing school is better than a perv at the Bunny Ranch.

Under most circumstances, 35 and under I generally stick to the limit, 45-60 I'll cheat by 2-3, and 65+ I'll cheat by 5. But if the traffic flow is faster, I'll do what most people are doing, as there is safety in numbers. However, it also depends on where I am, as I know some jurisdictions around here are sticklers about the posted limits and are waiting to pounce if you're even 1 MPH above the limit at the sign. And if I'm in an unfamiliar area, I go the limit and watch out for the abrupt and odd speed changes going into and out of some towns.

Not you, was just referring to people I see that take off like a rocket put after a red light just to be the first at the next stop light. From a dead stop you put stress on the engine parts and torque converter doing that causing leaking gaskets. Highway speeds is optimal for a car if speeding.

Local roads I do the limit. On the Parkway and Interstates it depends upon how close the exits are. Limit if close together and up to that 7mph extra that state troopers grace us with if exits are spaced out. If the flow is greater than that on the open Interstates I'll sit in the right lane at 7+ and let them flow by. Never got a speeding ticket.

And I even ride my bike slowly. Doing my racing on Need for Speed games.
As to actual speeding, I was with people who went pushing the car on our Autobahn - where on most stretches, ANY speed is allowed - and we both always found it 'a rush' for a while, but it is such a stress, and you only need one mistake, or one stupid other guy making one, and you are dead.
Real speeding is hard work, ask a race car driver. And it should be left to them. Enjoy your ride, and makeit easier for others to go around
