Really not a good question for self-employed ...

I will have 5 figures on my credit card some months, but it's paid off immediately that month. When you're self-employed, that tends to happen -- expenses and all. So it equates to $0, because I pay virtually $0 in finance charges as a result.

I am debt free today but when I was 17 I had around $20K in credit card debts, but I managed to pay it down in less than 3 months. It is frightening how these credit cards can really take control of your life.

We were having a conversation the other day wondering how some of our peers live the way they do. It seems like it is very common in the US, at least, to live on credit.

Most people carry credit card debt because we live in a country too heavily based on appearances. There are millions of people who have nice/new cars, great clothes and no money in the bank. Instead of living conservatively and having cash on hand they rely credit cards to make them look like they have what they actually don't. It is a symptom of a much deeper social problem.:yinyang:

i've never had a credit card, and maybe never will. i suppose in case of emergency one would be nice, but i've gottn along okay so far.
i am debt free. i never buy anything i don't have cash for, needless to say i don't live extravagantly, but i'd rather not participate in the game. whenever i decide to buy a home ill have debt, but aside from student or business loans or a car loan, thats the only real debt i can justify.
