Do Pets Really Have Personality?

personality? you should see my kittens. such opposites and so similar. they are a perfect match. one is a lap girl so sweet and calm. the other is mischievous, curious, and spunky. she curls up on you when she wants.

I learned that the hard way. I picked a pup out of a litter based on color and ended up with a nervous dog, that yapped and attacked people. Always regreted I didn't go for the friendly one, and never made that mistake again.

Likewise a friend years ago, another friend, and neighbors then now, have/had doberman's, and rottweilers that are really big babies around me. (Once they ID'd me). I used to walk down the street, and had to say hello to Tara, and Sparkie and Browny and had a chow that used to hang around me all the time.

yeah they do i have two dogs. one black lab and one black lap pit mix. they have such a personality and then i have two cats one is 10 years ld the other she is a baby still only two months she has so much spunk in her. she thinks i'm a tree while i sit here at the computer and climbs up my legs. and she loves to slug up to me while she sleeps. animals are great to have around they can make you happy any time your having a bad day..

gotta agree it's a definate yes

i've got 2 dogs at the moment of similar but different breeds born within 4 weeks of eachother & they're totally different personalities, and my previous pooch was very different again

iamf's point is interesting - there are mammals & birds with personality for sure, what about any others ?

maybe crocodiles & octopi ( or octopussies, whatever) & some others do too ?

animals are great to have around they can make you happy any time your having a bad day..

My dog anf my cat definatly have personalities. All animals act different from one another.

I never had any doubt my pets had personalities.

If you laughed at my cat, he used to get pissed off and hide behind the sofa.

I believe they all do. Dogs, cats, all the reptiles, lizards I know do as well as snakes, even pet birds.

I am not so sure about bugs, I don't hang around long enough to get acquainted. lol

Two dogs, my Sis's lab was a crazy, silly dog, and my pooch was very smart and absolutely used to have me laughing. Another in the family is a little terrier, very quiet but he loves to fetch. Also had a cat that used to do back flips down the stairs to get his toy, bring it back so you could throw it again.

I do not have pets but two pigeons come and stay with me in my balcony.

The pair of pigeons are life-partners. They built a net and laid two eggs and the female pigeon is incubating the eggs. I bulit a "house" for them and they are not afraid of me and fly away.

Th female pigeon knows I am harmless and does not even move when I step into the balcony.

The male pigeon is out there looking for food and come home at night to stay with the female pigeon.

It is amazing to see even birds can be life-partner but human like us have divorce and abuse kids.

Everyday I watch how the mother pigeon sits there 24 hours a day incubating the eggs and understand how nature is.

Pets are not much different than human beings !

I have some large cranes in my yard, and they are very used to me. I keep my distance but am trusted to within 4 feet.

i believe that any animal that cognitively thinks has a personality. you can tell when a dog is sad, or happy, and each animals acts differently much like humans. so say a animal has no personality would be like saying animals have no feelings. nay sayers may say animals cant have a personality but then they definitely have an animality.. and bottom like humans are animals
