I'm sure almost everybody would agree this is a bad idea. It's better to remake an average movie and make it better. However, if someone had decided to remake this movie my No. 1 choice would be:
1. Robert Knepper

2. Zachary Quinto

I think at least you would get a decent perfomance and they kinda look the part but there's only one Dirty Harry. Leave it alone. :crash:

someone enjoys heroes.

It's a tough decision between, Poof Daddy and Zack Efron

If someone was idiotic enough to try and remake the Dirty Harry films, which current actor do you think would make a suitable "Dirty" Harry Callahan?

Doing a remake of "Dirty Harry" films is sacreligious but if they did it anyway they should have GAry Coleman portray him

All the Baldwin's are unsuitable for the job.
This just shouldn't happen. :)

Adam Baldwin is not related to the other Baldwin clan. Adam is Agent Casey on "Chuck", and has played a total badass in tons of stuff.

But despite that, I voted for them to stop remaking classic movies, just so they can have a huge opening weekend off name recognition, and use that money to keep letting dudes make movies like those "Madea" things.

:hatsoff:

I assumed he is one of the brothers and therefore unsuitable. I don't know who this Baldwin is so I will reserve judgement. :)

I find it difficult to think of instances when a great film was remade and came out better than the original.

Well it took three tries to get Maltese Falcon right. Both the Ben Hur and the Ten Commandments most people know are the remakes. The Three Musketeers and Sherlock Holmes have been remade MANY times and I'm not sure which could be said are the best. Then there's all the Shakespeare movies... Maybe the rule should be: If you want to remake something start with great source material.

I only watched the first series which I thought was really good. Then it went down hill fast. Now you would have to pay me to watch it. :D

As I said at the start, this was just a hypothetical remake, so calm down...there's nothing on imdb that indicates a remake is on the way (phew). I was just musing on who we would like to see be considered if such a venture was (albeit misguidedly) undertaken.

As for the whole issue of originality, "I am Legend" was a remake of 1971's "The Omega Man", which was a remake of 1964's "The Last Man on Earth". "The Day the Earth stood still" was remade and they are even remaking Robocop...so no existing film is protected from remakes, regardless of original quality.

But I thank you for the possibles, even if some were a little obscure (Poof Daddy and Zack Efron - c'mon, they'd never afford Zack, and Poof wouldn't do it unless it was retitled Dirty Poof), and hope that you didn't get too upset thinking there was any real possibility of a remake :D

Hugh Jackman. He looks almost identical to Clint Eastwood and he could pull off the role credibly IMO.

Yeah but isn't he Danzig height or something like that?

Not sure..but when has height ever mattered all that much in Hollywood?

I could see Nathan Fillion, but not in a remake of the old Eastwood films. Some Hollywood shitbird might think a new Dirty Harry film is a good idea :dunno:

Think about it...

Rosie O'Donnel.

Rosie would be a better villian. I could see her being cast as a serial killer of cops who has a vendetta against all of them because they have the nerve to carry guns.

Harry would then finally come to the rescue and take her down. Of course, in Rosie's case, he would probably have to use an elephant gun - and wouldn't that be poetic?

I have a better idea

HOW ABOUT COME UP WITH SOME NEW IDEAS INSTEAD?

Ladies and gentlemen, I think we have a winner! Rep to you.

no. no no no. never. no one can pull off the roll like clint, no one. and you cant re shoot those scenes, theyre a once in a life time thing.

if anyone tries to re do em, ill show the real .44 mag
