It's good to be the king...
No, he should have hit him. It's a fucking boxing match.

The way Valuev was throwing punches it would have been pretty easy to get good hits in, but he didn't even bother.

Against Valuev I would have done exactly the same (I'm sure that guy is a mutant anyway!)

Also Haye stated he damaged his right hand against Valuev early on.

OK, last night wasn't a great advert for heavyweight boxing, but like I said, that divison needs a shot in the arm...

The whole thing was just a freakshow to begin with. The build up was more exciting than the fight itself.

So true.

This is why I don't watch boxing. I didn't watch the fight but it sounds to me like Haye won because of politics. I don't think there should even be a decision in boxing.....what's the point? They should fight until somebody gets knocked on their ass or gives up. Valuev would have easily outlasted Haye in a real fight.

I’m glad David Haye won as I think it will be good for heavyweight boxing and from what I heard the big Russian log didn’t do much to deserve to win. However, as I didn’t watch the whole fight I can’t really say too much about what looked like a freak show from all the build up and the highlights I’ve seen. However, I’m not that impressed with David Haye. In my opinion he sure is not an Ali or Tyson or Holyfield in his prime. Holyfield would have eaten Valuev for breakfast in his prime years.

Smaller well-trained athletes tend to have much more stamina than much larger well-trained athletes. Sprinters are normally tall with big muscles and long distance runners tend to be small and slim or tall and slim. So I’m very curious to know what makes you think that a 22.5 stone slow log like Valuev could outlast a 15.5 stone very well trained athlete like David Haye. Don’t forget the art of boxing is to hit without being hit.

Also judging from the highlights I saw Haye almost knocked out Valuev in the 12th round and had the fight gone on a few more rounds it appeared to me that it’s more likely that Haye would have knocked him out. :wave2:

On ESPN radio this morning they were talking how this event was one of Boxings worst. At the arena there were no big screens, no replay monitors for fans to see big punches, no countdown clocks and less than 2,000 in a 11,000 capacity building showed up. Add to that the card was not very good. Colin Cowherd and another guy who was there said this event gave boxing two black eyes and pro boxing is already hurting badly. Sad for the once mighty sport of kings.

I believe the opposite, yes the fight wasn't the best, but by getting rid of the joke that is Valuev Haye has gone someway to restoring boxing's credibility.

The fact that the fight wasn't good and that the arena was cheaply put together especially for a HW title fight is a very bad sign for boxing. It is good to get rid of Nik though, I totally agree.

Valuev hits harder....it only takes one punch to knock somebody out. Also, Haye thinks he may have broken his hand hitting Valuev. What makes you think he could knock out Valuev with a broken hand?

You say "it appeared to you" which is my point exactly, its pure speculation. Nobody really won because it goes to score cards and is based on someone's opinion. Meh, I'll just stick with mixed martial arts....boxing can become extinct for all I care.

I’m sorry to have to bring you the bad news but your argument doesn't
hold water.

My viewpoint is based on hard FACTS.

Valuev was given 12 rounds that’s 36 minutes to land this amazing single
punch you talk so much about and he failed to do it. FACT!!

The rules are you must outscore or knockout your opponent within the
allotted time. He failed. FACT!!

At the end of the day a man’s weight is just a number. It does not tell
you how hard they can punch. FACT!!

Having a harder punch means nothing unless you can land it. FACT!!

What makes you think he could knock
out Valuev with a broken hand?

I answered this question in my previous reply with yet another FACT!!

I’ll repeat what I said for you with a bit more info. David Haye broke his
right hand at some point in the fight and he still almost knocked out
Valuev in the 12th round. FACT!!

It might be useful to watch some of the fight then you can establish
some FACTS for yourself.

According to your way of thinking George Foreman should have been
handed victory over Ali in the famous "rumble in the jungle"
simply because we all know he had a much harder punch. But once
again the harder puncher failed to land the killer blow and he was
knocked out. FACT!!

Anyone that watches the world’s strongest man competition will
know the current world’s strongest man (and the man who has won
the competition more times than anybody else) is Mariusz Pudzianowski FACT!!

Now here is another interesting FACT about weight, strength and power.
Mariusz weighs about 20 stone and most of his main rivals weigh upto
30 stone or more that’s 1.5 times his weight (that’s a much bigger weight
difference than Valuev and Haye and just like in boxing extra weight is a
huge natural advantage) but he has proved 5 times that pound for pound
he is stronger than all his main rivals. FACT!!

boxing can become extinct for all I care.

That’s fine I accept your opinion here but as you clearly don’t like boxing
when did you discover how hard Valuev punches? Please tell me where
you got this information from? Or is this simply based on the FACT that
he weighs 22.5 stone. I love boxing and most other fighting sports but
I have no idea how hard Valuev punches and I bet you don’t either.

Your view is bigger man = harder punch = guaranteed victory.
This doesn’t make sense. FACT!!

Did you read my most recent reply in the following thread?

I notice you haven’t sent me a PM. Send me a PM and I’ll send you some more hard FACTS!!

You say "it appeared to you" which is my point exactly, its pure speculation

That’s true but at least I’m basing my opinion on the FACT that Haye
almost knocked him out in the 12th round. Anybody that watched the
whole fight or the highlights will know this is yet another FACT!!

Nobody really won because it goes to score cards and is based on someone's opinion.
I'll just stick with mixed martial arts....boxing can become extinct for all I care.

You are clearly saying that victory should not be awarded to the person
the judges believe won (and that’s what they are paid for in many sports.
good or bad) but to the person who has the harder punch. This doesn’t
make sense. FACT!!

You can't allow a fight to continue until there is a clear winner.
That will lead to many more deaths in fighting sports. FACT!!

Obviously if there was a clear KO there would be little or no room for
argument and it would have been more entertaining but in the real
world of fighting sports this doesn't always happen.

And correct me if I’m wrong but don’t most if not all fighting sports
including “mixed martial arts” use judges? So if you are correct
unless someone is knocked out in mixed martial arts no one really
wins either.

I quote on mixed martial arts: “Victory in a match is normally gained either
by the judges' decision after an allotted amount of time has elapsed, a
stoppage by the referee (for example if a competitor can not defend himself
intelligently) or the fight doctor (due to an injury), a submission, by a
competitor's cornerman throwing in the towel, or by knockout.” FACT!!

There’s a whole lot of FACTS here. I rest my case. All the best. :2 cents:
