Creepy dungeon house found.

An abandoned Pickering farmhouse that was found to have a padlocked dungeon in its basement burned to the ground early Friday morning, causing an unexpected setback in an already bizarre police investigation.

A fire broke out at 140 Concession Rd. 7 outside of Pickering shortly after midnight and soon consumed the desolate building where police had been carrying out an investigation.

Durham Regional Police got the 911 call at 1:45 a.m., said Sergeant Nancy van Rooy. By the time officers arrived, the “two storey structure was entirely engulfed in flames.”

Police consider the fire at the 136-year-old farmhouse to be suspicious, and will continue their investigation as the Ontario Fire Marshall comes in to determine exactly how the fire broke out. No one was in the building at the time and no one was injured, Sgt. van Rooy said.

“It sets us back, for sure,” she said, referring to the existing police investigation into who built the dungeon and what, if anything, was going on there.

“It’s going to be challenging for sure to try to regroup on the evidence side because so much had been destroyed, and that definitely could be a motivation of the fire,” she said, stressing that fire investigators must first find out the cause of the fire before police can continue.

Because the dungeon was in the basement, there is a hope that the room may still be intact, she said.

Steve Fowlds, the City of Pickering’s fire prevention officer, said only smouldering bits of the house remain amidst the debris — part of the chimney, a few columns from the front porch and a TV antenna. The house is in a densely wooded area, so officers had to go into “defensive mode” to knock it down. It “took a while” before fire crews could snuff out the fire completely as there was no water supply nearby.

Before the blaze, police were trying to determine who built the “confinement-style” room with padlocks affixed to the very thick door, discovered in late November when crews went in to assess the building that had been scheduled for demolition.

Police said the house was last occupied in 2006, but the room was new — believed to have been built within the last year or two.

“I can’t get into what was in the room, but the way it was constructed — the time and effort put into it and the materials used — clearly indicated it was a room designed to hold somebody in,” Durham Regional Police Detective Darren Short said last month.

“There was a locking mechanism nobody would be able to penetrate or breach.”

Scary stuff. Not too far from me.

Um okay and you started a thread to tell us this? Why should we care?

Scary because it was near you? What are even the odds that you would somehow have ended up imprisoned in that dungeon? Anyway interesting story although it may just turn out to be some sex dungeon where a mistress held slaves or broadcast live cam shows from.

It's an interesting investigation and I wanted to share it. Do you complain in every thread about a news story? Or did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed today?

I think he was just telling you that its not really that interesting. This is more of a local news story so it's not going to appeal to anyone. It seems like the kind of story they would tell last on the news. It's not really important and not really deemed worthy of a thread

The way the police described it, I doubt it's a fetish dungeon. I don't think a mistress would go to the lengths required to make it unbreachable or impenetrable. The house hasn't been occupied in 6 years and it's weird that it mysteriously burns down before police could investigate further into the dungeon. I'd bet something sinister was going on there.

It's scary to imagine people being kidnapped and held captive in the middle of nowhere. If that's what is happening.

You could say the same thing about most of the news stories posted here. We all know if someone else posted this, they wouldn't be getting slack. It's not about the content, but the person who posted it.

This was on the Windsor Star website. Reminds me of The Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary. I hope someone looted the place first.

I don't think i've ever said that about a news story. Also why would i say it was stupid just because it is from a certain person. I said it wasn't interesting because it isn't. Not because you created it

Had they arrested someone or investigating whoever lived at that house? If there was still evidence to be collected the police should have been guarding it or had CCTV on it at the minimum. You could kidnap LukeEl so when he wakes up in a dungeon the relevance of this story will realy hit home! On a serious note the scary thing is it could have been built by a nutcase similar to this:
