Tree-rings prove climate was WARMER in Roman and Medieval times than it is now - and world has been cooling for 2,000 years

  • Tree ring study gives first accurate climate reading back to 138BC
  • World has been slowly cooling for 2,000 years
  • World was warmer in Roman and Medieval times than it is now
  • Study of semi-fossilised trees in Finland

Rings in fossilised pine trees have proven that the world was much warmer than previously thought - and the earth has been slowly COOLING for 2,000 years.
Measurements stretching back to 138BC prove that the Earth is slowly cooling due to changes in the distance between the Earth and the sun.
The finding may force scientists to rethink current theories of the impact of global warming.

It is the first time that researchers have been able to accurately measure trends in global temperature over the last two millennia.
Over that time, the world has been getting cooler - and previous estimates, used as the basis for current climate science, are wrong.

Their findings demonstrate that this trend involves a cooling of -0.3°C per millennium due to gradual changes to the position of the sun and an increase in the distance between the Earth and the sun.

You've got that right, Will. Here's more on the study....

Planet Has Been Cooling for 2,000 Years

The warm summer is just what hoaxers needed to revive the flagging global warming swindle. But science is still not on their side:

A study suggests the Britain of 2,000 years ago experienced a lengthy period of hotter summers than today.

German researchers used data from tree rings — a key indicator of past climate — to claim the world has been on a ‘long-term cooling trend’ for two millennia until the global warming of the twentieth century.

This cooling was punctuated by a couple of warm spells.

These are the Medieval Warm Period, which is well known, but also a period during the toga-wearing Roman times when temperatures were apparently 1 deg C warmer than now.

They say the very warm period during the years 21 to 50AD has been underestimated by climate scientists.

Lead author Professor Dr Jan Esper of Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz said: ‘We found that previous estimates of historical temperatures during the Roman era and the Middle Ages were too low.

‘This figure we calculated may not seem particularly significant, however it is not negligible when compared to global warming, which up to now has been less than 1 deg C.’

Climate naturally fluctuates, as anyone not relying on the New York Times for information is probably aware. But the overall trend over 2,000 years has been cooling as the Earth’s orbit takes it farther from the sun.

If the human race lasts long enough, we might find ourselves wishing manmade global warming were real.

Hardly a conclusive study. This only covers the "northern belt" from UK to Finland. OK, good for them. But science has also determined that the Sahara and Gobi regions have grown exponentially during the same period. The Tigris/Euphrates area is not anywhere near the same that it was back then. And the Anasazi (Mesa Verde) people didn't carve homes out of the side of a cliff because they liked watching sand blow around.
