Recently, ESPN's first take featured a spot with Barry Melrose and Jalen Rose going head to head on hockey vs. basketball on a few categories including nicknames. I gotta admit, Kobe's 'Black Mamba' handle is pretty unique, but recently OKC's Kevin Durant has been dubbed 'The Durantula' which is just flat out awesome!

So what are the best nicknames all time in sports??? Here are a few:

Most nicknames in sports now suck.

Baseball - (first letter of first name) + (first 3 letters of last name) A-Rod, K-Rod etc.
Basketball - Some combination of your initials and your jersey number. CB4, CP3, etc.
Hockey - Replace the last syllable of your last name with the letters ie/y/er. Ozzy, Kipper, Iggy, etc.

Actually, the original "Twin Towers" moniker referred to Hakeem Olajuwon & Ralph Sampson back when they were both drafted by the Houston Rockets in the 1980s:

Never knew Lou Pinella was known as "Sweet Lou" as well. The only "Sweet Lou" I ever knew was "Sweet Lou" Whitaker, Detroit Tigers.

By my pick would be Dominique "The Human Highlight" Wilkins. I mean how can that be outdone?
