Computer virus detected!

I need some help,I was chatting with a girl i think on yahoo im and sent me a link to her supposed web cam show. I clicked and asked if I wanted to run or save the file,I went to run it but came up saying run only if you trust the website.I didn't click it at first but after a few minutes I clicked to run the file a few second later a thing came up reading THREAT DETECTED! do I have the virus,or was it a warning? I have AVG Anti Virus free edition,I'm scanning right now, nothing detected yet and my comp seems to be running ok....Any help would be much appreciated. After I opened the THREAT DETECTED message came up my comp froze so I x out of the web browser, went back on went into my email and deleted it.

thanks guys,i'm running a full scan right now....I had Norton when i first bought my laptop i wish i still had it.only had a 3 month trial.

When it came up saying threat detected, was it a notice by AVG? This sounds similar to what happened to me a few times. I clicked on some link and a message came up saying a virus was detected, but it wasn't a message by my virus protection.

no i believe it was from avg, scan finished everything is ok..i had that other one two times before on my old laptop....worst virus i ever got. are you talking about the one that tells you,you have a virus and you have to buy their virus protection? i got that 2 yrs ago it kept on opening up different tabs with porn sites and viagra sites.

enter via safe mode / run your anti spyware

and/or once Windows loads, open up task manager and identify the application that shouldn't be running - kill it - then have it removed from the source

and/or restore your PC to where it was before the infection

the problem is - real trojans will usually disable anti-spyware / Windows updates, so you wouldn't know what the fuck to do.

avg is good and also download cccleaner and clean your registry.

The real problem is you have sociopathic idiots out there with the ability to wield some nasty shit.

Worse case, he's opened his computer to being backdoored by accepting the IM in the first place. Based on that kind of attack...in the extreme case it could be someone who deliberately targeted him and his computer could be compromised with keylogger, screen capture, remote control (open mic, cam), etc. right now. Considering some of the shit out there (for example) and how undetectable they can be to most av/as stuff...I'd change all passwords from a known clean computer and (sounds extreme but) to be completely safe...format c:\, re-install OS. Save yourself a bunch of headaches.

yep/ to be certain, run Mbam and disinfect /

^^I would say if he were randomly infected...typical anti-spyware/anti-virus would probably be enough.

In this case the attack appears deliberate in that he was duped to a file and/or site to be infected...through IM no less meaning the attacker has been invited to access his computer now and has the ability to do what they like with some know-how.

Therefore IMO, changing locks and barricading the doors now is probably a waste of time as the thief is likely in the house from a key stashed for his/her own door.

also, safer browsing with FF or Opera 11/ I won't use ie !:tinhat:

Everything seems to be ok with my comp now. heres the whole story,i was on xxxchatters.com and that person put in the chat who wants to yahoo "chat with me",so i did...so i started chatting with what i thought was a chick.she/he typed in i'm doing my cam show right now, sent me the link i clicked on it and ran the file then the message "threat detected" poped up....then i got into total panic mode. I went to my AVG and started scanning. before i clicked on the link she/he asked why i didn't click on it and i said is it a virus and they replied hell no! after i started the scan i went back into chat and said to her/him it's a virus and they replied hell yes,and i asked why would you do that? there reply for fun with a little x) what a psycho huh!after that my comp froze i exited the web browser, went back onto the web went into my yahoo account i noticed she/he wasn't online in the chat,i deleted my account,it was an alias account anyways....everything seems to be fine with it.
