Commonwealth Games 2010

I'm in Toronto and there is absolutely 0 tv coverage here. Aside from hearing the occasional update on radio about Canadians medaling, there really isn't much interest. Im glad they cleaned up the hotels for the athletes though.

Commowealth games are just minor league olympics.

Agree with the above ^^^ plus it all sounds like a bit of a farce. A footbridge collapsing near one of the venues, alleged appalling living conditions for the athletes, part of the ceiling in another venue collapsed and a king cobra being found in one of the tennis venues.

Whether all this is bullshit or not or it's just been exaggerated is another thing, but something tells me they weren't ready to host the games.

Do you have any comments on anything about 19th Commonwealth Games in New Delhi?

Yeah, it's fucking bollocks.

It's a horrible reminder of the millions (billions?) the Australian government pours into sports just so some fuckwit can win a rediculous swimming contest and we can all gloat about how great we are, aussie pride, wank wank wank

fuck your commonwealth games, and fuck you government sport funding.

Quite frankly, any sporting event where Australia is on top of the medal count is a joke...

There are news from the media about accommodations, bridge collapse, pets, snakes and officials transportation but we did receive no formal negative complaints from officials and athletes. Until today the most important issue is all events has been held without any delay or cancellation except the swimming pool water issue. But there is no evidence that the water is contaminated. I think it will be held successfully and it is some kind of fear with no evidence which makes some athletes unable to take part in the competition.

I saw something yesterday on the news about the archery final when the crowd were jeering (apparently not allowed in archery) and the girl who was being jeered shot way of the bull and lost gold by a point, supposedly put off by the noise.

I also heard something on the radio about a swimmer vomiting before getting in the pool to race.

Apart from that I've mostly managed to avoid it.

started out as a farce...might end as one :uohs:

Never even fucking heard of it.

Did we stop the tradition of actually having a relevant or interesting topic before starting a thread? I feel like that was ignored here...

It was all a ploy the bridges collapsing, to king cobras being found, for the best atheletes to pull out. Now india is second in the medals tally. :D

No doubt it was a mess in the beginning but i think it will go off just fine. Some politicians made pots loads of money in the process but hey what are they best at anyway?

dunno about that but some stupid racist australian swimmer blamed jumping into the pool before the starter on "monkeys" screaming.

Before that some reporter from new zealand made fun of the New Delhi Chief ministers surname that happens to be "Dikshit"

the latter was funny tho :D

I wouldn't think there was any reason for you to have heard of it since as you say it isn't relevant to you and I doubt there would be any coverage for you to know anything about it. Having said that the clue is in the title of the thread - I've never clicked a thread that has baseball in the title as it's not relevant to me. However, the topic is relevant to those of us who have to put up with it on the news everyday at the moment and wonder how much of our tax is being spend on this questionable specacular. And it's not that it's being help in India; I'd question it where ever it was held.

Is nimbly peg an event in the Commonwealth games?

There should be no excuses though. Not only do cities bid on these kinds of games, but the bid takes place well before the games are held there, usual before the present one begins.
