College Football rules question

Bears For Life
I was watching a bit of a College Football game earlier and I noticed something.

A WR caught a ball and hit the ground with his knee and elbow and the play was over right away without the receiver being touched by the defender. Isn't the Receiver allowed to touch the ground with his knee or elbow in College Football? He doesn't need to be touched by a defender to be down by contact like in the NFL?

Are there any other major differences in College and NFL rules?

Thanks for any input. :)

In college football you don't need to be down by contact. As soon as your knees, butt, forearm, etc.. touches the field the player is ruled down.

Overtime is much different. Each team is given equal possessions and you start on the opponent's 25 yard line (which is ridiculous).

As for the WR, isn't it one foot in bounds on a catch for college? In the NFL, two feet have to be in bounds on a catch.

Agreed. Yes, the never ending game. Overtime in college is so drawn out. Scoring can go on forever. :(

A receiver only needs to have one foot inbounds while maintaining possession to be ruled a catch. That makes a huge difference.

Pass interference is a 15 yard penalty instead of the spot of the foul.

Also in College there is no salary cap. Especially in the SEC.
