No. During the '70's. I can't remember the exact year(s), but Ford had to do some major damage control, after certain model Pinto's had something going on with the fuel tanks, and there was a chance if it you got rear ended hard enough, your car would explode in a fire ball. I think a few people died too. You could probably google it and find out all of the particulars.

There's also a bit scene in a film where a speeding carload of terrorists brakes just in time from crashing into a Pinto. But the bumpers tap and the Pinto explodes.
