"Click it, or Ticket"

Legzman

what the fuck you lookin at?
Those of us here in America have heard this saying a lot over the past year or so. I love how they claim
Its not about writing tickets its about saving lives.
Bullshit. Its all about making money plain and simple.

I think if they really want us to believe it was about saving lives they should call it "Click it, or Die!" That would send a much stronger message.

It's about revenue for public funds and another boon for the insurance lobby as they get to raise your rates for seat belt convictions.

Now that's not different from the insurance lobby using other vehicle code violations to adjust rates EXCEPT for not wearing a seatbelt can never cause an accident...so it shouldn't be the state's business to enforce you wearing one and the insurance companies ought to be finding their own ways of determining whether you're wearing one or not. Not enlisting the state to do their business.

It's also just another probable cause tool for cops to further investigate other suspected crimes.

Here's what it's all about I think. If a cop sees you not wearing a seat belt, he has a great reason to pull you over, see if you have been drinking, see if there is anything illegal going in the car, etc. etc. They don't care about saving lives. They care about saving the bottom line.

So wear it!!!!!.........Just to be on the "safe" side.

Conspiracy...
I agree. This has to be repealed.

I've heard of officers being caught not wearing their seat belts.

So, how can they enforce a rule they don't always follow?

Stop invading my life, home, vehicle... Just stay out of my business.

"not wearing seat belts" (against laws), talking on the phone while driving (against laws), typing on their MDTs while driving (against laws)...

By claiming that they don't wear them in case they have do get out of the car in a hurry...that those few extra seconds saved by not having to unbuckle a seat belt could save someone's life.

....not saying I agree....

I buckle up every time I get in a vehicle without even thinking about it. One time years ago I got a ticket. I was telling my mother about it and she was more surprised about forgetting than she was about the ticket.

That being said, I choose to wear my seatbelt not because of any BS law. The same goes for motorcycle helmet laws. I choose to wear one even if I'm in a no helmet law state. It's MY decision. If someone gets in an accident and dies because of not having their seatbelt on that is their decision. Just one more case of the government telling us that they know better than us. Be good little sheep and do as your told.

It's probably more effective to threaten with tickets. I doubt many people leave their driveway considering the possibility that they will get into a fatal accident, but pretty much everyone knows the annoyance of being fined for a traffic violation.

They have a good reason to pull you over to check for shit, maybe. And your right it is all about the bottom line.

Legz, did you just get a ticket for not wearing a seat belt?:dunno:

Yea, like 4 years ago.

It's MY decision

Exactly my point! As adults we should have the right to chose to wear a seatbelt/helmet or not. Should be required for children sure, but for adults its our fucking choice!

I've developed the habit of wearing my seatbelt. I don't however wear a helmet when I ride. I'm just not comfortable with one on. In my state thats still a choice, but up in Michigan its a law. I do not agree with laws like these.

IMO, among the most stupid things anyone can ever do is:

1. Smoke cigarettes
2. Not wear a helmet on a motorcycle/bike
3. Not wear a seatbelt

With that said, we shouldn't need laws to regulate these behaviors. If people aren't smart enough to do the right thing, they deserve to live with the possible consequences of their actions.

Exactly. It's wise to make the smart choice with respect to those decisions but the government should be "pro choice" on them.

That is too much like right but hey it is all a money thing like you said:2 cents:

I think not wearing your seatbelt is pretty stupid. With that said, I also think as long as they're adults, it's not the government’s job to protect people from themselves and their own stupidity.

I also agree with the people that think the government and insurance companies are too involved with each other. The government shouldn't do the insurance companies' work for them.

Seat belts and airbags aren't meant to keep people from having accidents or saving lives, they're there as a reassurance to any nimrod that gets behind the wheel that nothing's gonna happen. If they really wanted to avert accidents and save lives they would make car manufacturers install a sharp metal spike on the steering wheel and point it at the driver. $2 bucks says nobody would drive any faster than 15.

In a bell tower, watching you through cross hairs.
Can't wear it. It interferes with me drawing my weapon in the event of a threat on my person...plus the shoulder strap rubs my nipple, and gives me a big old boner, and it distracts from me driving safely.

If a cop actually wastes his time pulling you over for a seatbelt, then either the crime rate has ended or the day is slooooooow.

Well....I see so many cars with children jumping around and playing, and 6 or 7 people is a 5 seater car...and so many children are killed when there is even a minor accident.
Just recently a car hit a mini-van and 2 children were ejected from the van, the baby died and the other was in critical condition.
It happens a lot, and the only way to even get some compliance is to ticket anyone seen without a seatbelt.
The cost to all of us from deaths and crippling injuries in various severities of car crashes is astronomical...especially when a poor person becomes a paraplegic or some similar severe injury make them a welfare case the rest of their life.
So many idiots and illegals don't have insurance, it makes car crashes not only dangerous but a major burden on everyone involved, and those taxpayers not even there.

I usually don't wear a helmet on a scooter, but that's just me...my kid wears a belt and rides in the back with a booster seat when we're in the car.
