I never bought them, but I know plenty of people who did. Then they released the "new and improved" editions, again on VHS. I never bought them, but once again, my friends did. I told them at the time, "Lucas is just milking this for all he can, getting you to pay twice for basically the same movies. Then he'll release them on DVD some time in the future, and you'll all pay for these movies for a THIRD time!" I'll get the DVDs, but I get this strange feeling these movies will somehow be re-released in a slightly different form YET AGAIN some time in the future, and once again everyone will be rushing out to buy them. :D

You're right about that my friend. I bought them in '95, was tempted to buy the special editions when they came out, but held off. I'll buy the DVD's when they are released, but you know when after the next installment comes out, he'll release them again, with "newly found footage, extras, etc" I've never bought the last two (Episodes I & II) don't care for them, there's no heart to them. He should have done them immiediatly after the first three. When he did these new ones, he was an older man, and in a different place then when he did the originals. just my opinion.

I never liked Episodes I and II either. Maybe I don't know enough about Lucas to make this comment, but I've often suspected that any artistic integrity he may have once had has long since vanished. He's basically been a Star Wars entrepreneur for the last few decades, getting richer and richer off all of the licencing agreements and so forth.

Lucas knew enough to step away from the director's chair for "Empire" and "Jedi," but for some reason chose to return for Ep. I and II. He shoula let someone else, maybe Spielberg, direct those movies. I know Spielberg's a businessman too, but at least he still knows how to direct a good popcorn flick.

Are you kiddin, Lucas is incredibly jealous of spielberg.Like i said im my Star wars or Lord of the rings Thread

I remember reading that. My Spielberg suggestion was not a joke but it wasn't 100% serious either..... just wanted to point out that Lucas' motivation is not to make the best movie he can. Don't know what's guiding him.... greed, ego.... I don't know enough about him to say.... but I get the feeling it isn't just about making the best movie possible, or else he's be honest enough to admit (to himself) that he's not the best person suited to direct it.

Lucas is making many changes to the script of episode 3, he says the fans arent worthy of such an awesome movie.

I hope he's right.... Episode I put me to sleep, and although II had interesting points in it, it kind of dragged.

Episode 3 is gonna rock slightly hard

To be honest, I still haven't seen episode 2 yet. After seeing ep 1, I haven't been in a rush to see it.

Believe me, rent it don't buy it! See it before the next installment comes out though, it does incorporate some tie-ins with the original 3.

One thing for sure , Lucas is going to have to pull several ewoks out of hats , jump through force fields and saw half a dozen banthas in half if he is going to get this last film to link ep 2 to ep 4 successfully.
Lets all pray to the twin moons of Tatooine that he does just that....

I'm not holding my breath waithing for it after the last two. I think he had least had the original cast make cameos in them in might have held my interest. There just wasn't any heart and soul in them for me.

Episode 3 should be pretty awesome

One thing has always bothered me...
Why did Lucas start with ep 4 ??. If you're going to tell a story , do it from the start ( maybe he realised that ep1 + ep2 were going to be pants from the start )
I hope that they update some of the ropey effects from eps 1-3 when they bring out the dvd boxst...oh and some decent 'making of' documentaries'

Just on a final note , I've seen a list on the net where someone has taken quotes from the film and changed just one word and replaced it with the word 'pants', quite funny(for a short while..)
"I feel a great disturbance in the pants..."(force)

The actual Episode 3 title rumor is Birth of the Empire. It is unlikely that Anakin and Obi-Wan will surf on lava. Very unlikely..

And the reason why Lucas started with episode 4 fist is because he feels that 4-6 are the most exciting parts in his story

:hatsoff:

I'm not a Star Wars expert by any means, but I know a thing or two about money, lol! Drawing from that "expertise," my guess is they decided to start with the movie that had the best chance of being a success, was the cheapest/easiest to make, etc, etc. Keep in mind that that they were travelling upon unproven ground, so no doubt the studio did everything they could to minimize it's entrepreneurial risk. Remember, at the heart of most decisions there's a bean-counter somewhere making sure he's getting the most back for his investment.
