Well, they say Mount Vesuvius blows historically after a big earthquake - not necessarily the one in Chile - and when that one goes off, there will be nastiness for days.

The earth's central axis has been shifting for millions of years, like a top that slowly "wobbling." Things like this make me wonder why in the fuck we don't put a LOT more money in space exploration because we KNOW that the earth isn't going to be here forever. :dunno:

What are you hoping to find out there?
Don't we have more than enough to deal with here on earth?

Well...the whole point of the universe being ours is that 1 comet or one event not being able to end mankind. We right now we have the ability to store the seeds of our species virtually indefinitely. The ability to program robots to carry out tasks that could ultimately reproduce our kind from those seeds, etc.

Mankind will survive..whether on earth or Alpha Centauri at some point in the distant future.

the few quakes that do speed up the earth aren't really as much of a problem

plus if we didn't have earthquakes, we'd be living on a dead planet like mars which doesn't produce a magnetic-field half as strong as earths
