Chile Earthquake May Have Shortened Days on Earth

Sucks...sounds like 2012 could be a reality if shit like this keeps up...:crying:

The massive 8.8 earthquake that struck Chile may have changed the entire Earth's rotation and shortened the length of days on our planet, a NASA scientist said Monday.

The quake, the seventh strongest earthquake in recorded history, hit Chile Saturday and should have shortened the length of an Earth day by 1.26 milliseconds, according to research scientist Richard Gross at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif.

"Perhaps more impressive is how much the quake shifted Earth's axis," NASA officials said in a Monday update.

The computer model used by Gross and his colleagues to determine the effects of the Chile earthquake effect also found that it should have moved Earth's figure axis by about 3 inches (8 cm or 27 milliarcseconds).

The Earth's figure axis is not the same as its north-south axis, which it spins around once every day at a speed of about 1,000 mph (1,604 kph).

I really need to stop letting my cock hit the ground so carelessly.

With a massive, legendary penis comes great, massive responsibility.

The earth's central axis has been shifting for millions of years, like a top that slowly "wobbling." Things like this make me wonder why in the fuck we don't put a LOT more money in space exploration because we KNOW that the earth isn't going to be here forever. :dunno:

Dammit! I was just about to post this! :crash:

Well I hope Scotland wobbles all the way down to the equator

Shows you how powerful the geophysics of our planet is. Now all we need is the super volcano brewing under Yellowstone to blow.............buh bye humanity,.........hello ice age.

Well...this would be different from a fairly consistent wobble. Humankind will continue....after all that's what the rest of this universe is for.:2 cents:

that second may come back to haunt us. i mean it only takes a second to kick a field goal so we could see this universe thing go into overtime. annihilation dodged a bullet there.

So the poor month of February will have only 27 days in about 150 years?

No more February 29 every four years. I guess the leap year babies will meld into a time warp or something.
