Censorship on Freeones: Warning, disturbing images ahead

I responded to a thread about George Washington hero or villain type thread.
My post contained a narrative of US History related to Washington's legacy,

A great deal of the posts addressed his role as a slave owner, the subsequent mistreatment of slaves, racism, etc.

However, the moderators censored my response by cutting out an image of a lynching of African Americans:

I reminded the moderators that the porn industry is frequently under ****** as being worthless obscenity and that they should not take up the banner of political suppression:

All ideas having even the slightest redeeming social importance -- unorthodox ideas, controversial ideas, even ideas hateful to the prevailing climate of opinion -- have the full protection of the guaranties, unless excludable because they encroach upon the limited area of more important interests. But implicit in the history of the First Amendment is the rejection of obscenity as utterly without redeeming social importance.​

However, their final response, was that's just the way it is. I believe that we must re-evaluate our beliefs and by extension our official history/mythology.

But, most importantly, that end is not furthered by suppressing speech because it does not comport with the orthodox goal of feel good Disney suppression of history.

What are your thoughts about censoring historical images without any principled criteria?
