A Toronto judge has struck down Canada’s prostitution laws, effectively decriminalizing activities associated with the world’s oldest trade.

“These laws, individually and together, force prostitutes to choose between their liberty interest and their right to security of the person as protected under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms,” Justice Susan Himel of Ontario’s Superior Court of Justice said in Tuesday’s landmark decision.

Fun to kick 'em around a bit from time to time, although I could be living there some day.

:surprise:

Canada...I'm warning you. There are forces that are simply NOT going to allow you to continue to be the common sense capital of North America.

:hatsoff:For having some balls. Now, go find yourselves some "pros" and use them.:glugglug:

Well done Canada; criminalisation of pros or those that use them does nothing more than endanger those who for whatever circumstances choose to enter the business and send the vacuum of power that will always arise in circumstances such as these in the wrong direction.

The sooner other nations realise this the better.

We need those judges in the States.

I was going to say the same thing. Since Bush wasn't democratically elected by the People, the generic Conservative activist Supreme Court judges he appointed should be removed by Obama so he can replace them with intellectually honest, forward thinking justices

I wish prostitution was legal in California :(

Prostitution has been legal in Canada for a long time.

It's only been public solicitation that's illegal, and in certain provinces, brothels.

Nah, in celebration they announced that tonight will be free for everyone! Just head on down and pick your poison (or, in this case, STD).

It's not the Supreme Courts of either the US or the states fault prostitution is illegal. It's not different than the government regulating almost all other business. It's the legislators fault for making dumb laws that criminalize it like it is now.

Truth be told, Canadian hookers are just hotter than anywhere else, and no one could resist them any longer. It was only a matter of time.

But what in the flying fuck are we going to do for political scandals? I guess there are still donkeys.

D-rock...Courts decide which laws will be upheld, not legislators. The laws have been challenged in court and it's there where the breakdown occurs as jurist after jurist strains to drag some reason into distinguishing it and keeping it illegal.

Anyone can pass any ordinance or law they have enough votes for.

The courts are where the laws are judge to be constitutional or not.
