At least 20 people were wounded in a shooting early Friday morning at a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado, an area hospital official told CNN.

All of the wounded suffered from gunshot wounds, which ranged from minor to critical, said Jacque Montgomery, a spokeswoman at the University of Colorado Hospital.

"They're arriving by police, by ambulance. Some are walking in," she said.

Police were responding to a "shooting incident" at the theater, a dispatcher told CNN. The dispatcher did not provide any additional details.

The shooting incident reportedly occurred during an early morning screening of the new Batman movie, "The Dark Knight Rises," witnesses told CNN affiliate KUSA.

"We saw people running around and screaming," a man, who was not identified, told KUSA.

He said there was confusion in the theater when the shooting began because many believed the sound of gunfire was coming from the movie next door

Police scanners in Aurora stated that the a majority damage was caused by a bomb, not gunfire. Police found a potential secondary device in a parking lot. At this time, most major reports indicate that this was primarily a shooting, however, some witnesses have stated that they heard the sound of gunshots and “explosions.”

One suspect is in custody. The suspect was reportedly waring a gas mask and a bullet-proof vest. Frank Fania, PIO for the Aurora Police department told CNN that the alleged gunmen had rifle and a hand gun in his possession and another firearm was found inside the theater. The suspect was arrested near his car by some of the first officers on the team.

I hear people doing the tough guy routine all the time, that had they been there with their sidearm, it would have never happened. I say "bunk". Pretty safe to say that none of us have ever been in a situation such as this - and hopefully never will - and none of us knows how we will react.

My question is, how the hell do the employees at this cinema let a guy who has: a rifle, gas mask, riot gear, bullet proof vest, helmet, and dressed in all black just walk into a movie theater... That would have to be one pretty big purse to fit all that in.. I wouldn't be surprised if you start seeing cinemas start checking bags, at least for now.. I just don't get it

According to what I just read on E! online (was linked there through IMDb http://ca.eonline.com/news/331806/t..._medium=rssfeeds&utm_campaign=imdb_topstories) the man kicked open an exit door. Also, how many employees would you think are gonna look at someone and say "Sorry sir, you can't enter with that rifle and ammunition." Hopefully someone would try (I still believe it's human nature to help others), but I don't think many would.

Had his car parked near the exit door. Someone saw him talking on the cell when he walked out the door. He came back with all his gear and started his thing. I heard on one report, confirmed or not confirmed, that the police contacted his mother and she said,"that sounds like him."
