Bryan Cranston On Breaking Bad Season 5 Splitting Into Two Parts And Where Things Pick Up

It’s been months since the excellent conclusion of Season 4 of AMC’s Breaking Bad, and at this point, my mind’s more on the thought of waiting eagerly for the show to return. It hasn’t actually set in yet that when it does return, the series will be marching toward its end. How will Breaking Bad end? Are we in for a happy ending? Or something utterly devastating? It could really go either way. A show like this never really felt set up for a happily ever after, but the writers may find one. Or Walter White will go out in a blaze of glory. We have plenty of time to speculate, and from what Bryan Cranston says, it sounds like we won’t see the ending of the series until next year.

It’s not really news that Season 5 of Breaking Bad might be split into two seasons, and while that isn’t officially confirmed yet, Entertainment Weekly says the series is close to an official verdict on the matter. The site also quotes series star Bryan Cranston as saying the final season, which will consist of sixteen episodes, will be split into two parts.

Cranston on Walter White: "There’s physical danger to himself and his family, plus there’s the emotional danger due to his anger and hubris. It’s about the evil that men do and where that takes him."

I just watched the first season on Netflix not too long ago. I was really impressed and loved it! I'm going to wait a little bit before jumping into the second season because i don't want to burn through the entire series.

Hello Sexy girl how your Toes doing?
What is everybody waiting for me to ROCK the thread for the start of Season 5?? Breaking Bad is back!! :nanner: So who watched the 1st episode last night and what did you think??? I thought it was brilliant again they rarely disappoint, I do need a little help understanding something or maybe I lost it & didn't pick it back up... but in the beginning you know how it started @ the diner with "52" if you saw it you know what I am talking about, now was that WW in the future, was it a dream, was it in the past before what happened @ the end of season 4?? WW had a full head of hair, and weird beard :D so what do you guys make of that?? then you saw what Walter went outside to look @.. what are your guys take of the beginning? :dunno:

I believe it was a flash-forward, similar to the intros shown during Season 2 with the pink teddy bear in the pool. We're not yet to know when exactly it happens (though Walt mentioned he turned 52, so that would make it 2 years from the start of the story), but it leads to massive foreshadowing either a few episodes in or more likely around the time the second half of this season starts next year. Unlike Season 2 though, I don't believe there's any interpretation as to what we saw. We know shit has hit/will hit the fan, and Walt's preparing for it, we just don't know the cause or when.

I'll post my further thoughts on the episode later.

Well since the beginning threw me off I failed too mention, from how I observed the 1st episode, we definitely saw the end of Gus Fring, but his cold as ice persona I think has worn onto / transferred into WW...

I saw and felt allot of Gus Frings vibes / personality coming from WW in the 1st episode. :suspicious: did anybody else pick this up? or am I just used to the Gus Fring's imposing personality being the the most intimidating part of the Breaking Bad storyline the last couple of seasons. :dunno::D

Walt looked like shit in that flash forward. I suppose that scene is supposed to tell us that he's possibly crashed, burned and is now on the run.

I noticed that when he was in the bathroom he was coughing again, so I wonder if that means that something's come up regarding the cancer.

I really need to watch this episode again. This one was deep and there were several things that I had trouble picking up on too. Yeah, I got the Gus vibes too. But I also saw how Walt was becoming really full of himself and that, I didn't care for. Even though he's a meth dealer, he's always been a character I could kind of cheer for. But he's becoming even worse than Gus in some ways - Gus didn't strike me as full of himself, just cold and evil.

Yeah I see what your saying, but I think Walter was kind of taught or led into that way of thinking, Walter is genuinely smart, he always psychoanalyzed everything that was going on, whether it was with Jesse, Skylar, Hank, Gus, his son etc.. Walter was always thinking and trying to predict the next move the other side was gonna make, and what he had to do to counter that move, so in this way of thinking, I think he perfected what he has got to do in order not only to survive, but to stay one step ahead of whatever comes @ him. Meaning he already picked up on the fact that Gus was that cold calculating figure who always seemed in control, and never lost his composure nor would he tilt his hand or look nor act vulnerable, and I think that's where and what WW is now doing.

IMO He's not really being or trying too be full of himself, he's just so calculating and invested in the situation he's just reacting the only way he knows how, with precision and confidence in his own intelligence. meaning I think WW is prepared and willing to do anything to protect his family, friends and his business ventures. :2 cents: and unlike you Rey, I'm not resenting Walter for newly found part of his brash ego shining through the situation and considering the intensity and importance of the issue's in his life and I am personally lovin it!!! I mean the new, more confident Walter. I think its just part of evolving past, and beating, and overcoming the Gus era / chapter that ruled his life. :D

Even though he's a meth dealer

I know I'm kinda splittin' hairs, but there's a difference between dealing & manufacturing.

I don't have anything else to add to the conversation, but I'm glad Breaking Bad is back for one more season. The start to season 5 was definitely intense as usual, and I'm glad that foreshadowing came back, it wasn't much in season 4 from what I remember.

As much of a bitch that Anna Gunn's character is. I'd still fuck her brains out and then some because she is a honey so she is.

Except that both Walt and Jesse have also dealt meth. That's how they got the hook-up with Gus. Selling it to another dealer is still dealing.

Also, it's really interesting how the power dynamic between Walt and Skyler has changed. There is no doubt that Walt is now the one wearing the pants ("Skyler, I forgive you." - kind of gave you the feeling that it's a good thing for her that he did!)

Looks like Skyler isn't dealing with this power shift very well, is she? :D From the first episode, I've never liked her. So I have to admit, I got a kick out of seeing that shrew melt down.

But Walt is getting pretty scary though, isn't he? Did you guys see how he was looking at that kid, Brock? Pretty devious, the way that he played Jesse to convince him to break up with Andrea. And that opening scene in episode 1 (a flash-forward), where he bought the machine gun, kind of gives us an idea of how things are going to unravel in the end. To me, Walt & Jesse are sort of like Butch & Sundance. And I'd like to see it work out in the end - but I know that the genius writers on this show won't make it that neat and simple. The bear in the pool and now the machine gun... when they foreshadow, bad shit always happens in the end. Oh well... it only ends once (so they say).

I like the new season very much so far. While in most shows, that run for more than two seasons, there's often a slow decline in quality, this one's level hasn't dropped at all. Too bad this will be the last season. On the other hand it's better to finish while you're on top instead of dragging the smelling rotten corpse of what once was a good show along for years and years.
