I only do it when someone comes here seeking attention because it's his/her birthday. That's like pratically begging a bunch of people you don't know in person to congratulate you wich makes you a sad attention whore. I will never start a thread because it's my birthday. I also said in a previous post you should feel free to dish out some negative rep.

If you feel that there is, do like your boss suggests and don't click on it. But as I understand it, the mods are here to monitor potential ******* contests, not start them.

The difference lies in expectations. Members who start a thread because it's their birthday do so because they know beforehand some of their fellow members will congratulate them. They want to be congratulated by them because they probably have no one else to do it. However, if my thread had gone unnoticed it wouldn't have made any difference to me.
