It depends on various factors.

If you live in a country like Finland you do not need the police.

But if you live in Israel, Brazil or South-Africa you will almost certainly need the help of police.

Every country needs a police force. What it does not need is a corrupt police force.
The ONLY country where you would not need the police is a country that has no laws.

I do not know anyone who would have been a victim of serious crime.

In Finland you can leave your home door open and go to work.

Certainly criminals can be found in here, but they are minority.
