Because people are a bunch of trend following sheep. Remember a couple years back when the hip thing to do was for one to pretend that they're absolutely obsessed with bacon?

Sure the White/SNL show was funny...she's a witty woman and it's cute to see an old lady like that, but this "resurgance" wouldn't translate to ticket sales if she were to be cast in some Hollywood movie. And I suspect her book won't do gangbusters either. When it comes to parting with money, the trend abruptly ends. But people will still pretend they're her biggest fan until the hipsters find something new to make ironic t-shirts about. Ralph Machio movies? The Fat boy record? We shall see.
