There is no professional sports rivalries that even come close to the best of the college rivalries. (except maybe Yankees/Red Sox)

In college rivalries, you choose who to play for.....You don't sign a free agent contract with the other team.

Most college rivalries involve intrastate and interstate rivalries that go back over 150 years. Professional rivalries are about when some overpaid athlete switched teams.

I've never seen any of that at a college football game. And those were just the fights, you'll have to check out the games to fully understand this rivalry.

The massive soccer rivalries, Celtic v Rangers R Madrid v Barca the Warsaw derby. Saw it this weekend in Egypt. For my fellow Americans imagine what a Braves v Yankees World Series would be like if it occurred during the civil war. These people do not like each and it has nothing to do with which team they root for.

but really not to take anything away from rivalries in team sports...but it just seems like those are often made because of the fans...not the actual players. I guess back in the day, when rivalries actually meant hating the other person on the other side, you had an argument...but today it just feels like rivalries are often overshadowed by coaches or media sensation...i mean did anybody catch the NHL all star game? Wtf happened?!?!? no more east vs west or any sort of pride...they all get along, no hatred...no fuel for a legit rivalry. And its not jsut hockey, its everything. So i guess its not entirely a bad thing, sports have matured...made things more professional...but there really isnt anything in the past decade id even consider close to what they had back in the day. everythings gone soft...

super depressing is that probably the sport that had the BEST 1 v 1 rivalries...boxing has completely become irrelevant. Now the closest thing boxing has is a rivalry between two dudes who are too afraid to fight eachother...lame
