other groups that had great intros i think were the who, that townshend/moon combo was just mean.
rush had some good intros, the stones always, van halen,

i often find song intros just popping into my head out of nowhere.
i can think of a few of the usual suspects right now.

Yeah, someone beat me to it, but most anything by AC/DC. 'specially Hell's Bells. Once he starts singing, the song is over IMHO. They do make sexy introductions though.

How about Sufjan Stevens' "Come on, Feel the Illinois" Not a long intro, but I love the energy and how it integrates into the rest of the song.

 
I've seen some pretty good stuff in this thread. Personally, this is my all time favorite intro (and song), but it at least should be at the top of Death Metal for anyone into the genre... Brutal, intense, epic, anthematic, and one of the few intros/songs that literally chills my spine.
