Best player in each pro sport today?

What do you think?

NBA: Kobe Bryant
MLB: Joe Mauer
NHL: Ryan Miller
NFL: This is a tough one, but I think I go with Tom Brady
Soccer: I don't follow EPL unfortunately
Tennis: Novak Djokavic and Caroline Wozniacki
PGA: Rory McIlroy

Yeah. :D

NBA: Kobe (For at least one more year.)
MLB: Albert Pujols
NHL: Evgeni Malkin (Hart Trophy winner this year, bet on it.)
NFL: Today? Calvin Johnson. Over the past 10 years? Tom Brady.
Soccer: Everyone seems to be blowing Messi so I'll choose him, I don't really watch soccer, though. And really, who cares?
Tennis: Novak Djokavic
PGA: Hard to argue with Rory McIlroy at this point. Nothing but upside, and he's only 22.

NFL is a tough one. As a homer it is hard for me to deny AP, but ever since he's been here they've been shit. Also, the RB is only so integral. If it was the most integral piece to the puzzle then Barry Sanders would have 3 rings. O-Line (left tackle) probably is the most integral part of football. :2 cents:

Three lullabies in an ancient tongue
NBA: Derrick Rose (The crown is being passed from Kobe as we speak)
MLB: Albert Pujols (Maybe the greatest ever before he's done)
NHL: Alex Ovechkin (this is a tough one but....)
NFL: Aaron Rodgers (Right now, he's the best there is)
Soccer: Lionel Messi (I'm not arguing with BMH on this one)
Tennis: Novak Djokavic (by a mile right now)
PGA: Nobody (should still be Tiger but....)

Auto Racing: Jimmie Johnson

For NASCAR, yes. For Indy Car....Dario Franchitti and for Formula One....Sebastian Vettel.

The PGA and even European PGA is probably a "no" ATM, you are right. For chrysakes, Luke Donald had the #1 ranking in the world for over the last year or so. He is not the best in the world. World golf rankings are flawed for sure. A person could make a case for Lefty but he isn't consistent at all.

Haha, but Villa led Spain in goals at the WC in '10 and to the title - not Messi.
:cthulhu:

Yes, but that does not make him a better player. Spain as a team are better than Argentina. Spain see everyone as equals and they pass they ball about so freely that it was easy for Villa to score goals. Argentina just expect Messi to do everything because he is so good.
Villa also only scored 5 goals, which is not prolififc.
Messi has everything, he can score loads of goals if he wants but he is not selfish. He would rather pass the ball about. Then when he feels like it, he will go on a run and is unstopable.

NBA: Don't follow NBA much but I think Derrick Rose tops the list.
MLB: Justin Verlander
NHL: Tim Thomas
NFL: Tom Brady
Soccer: Not a clue
Tennis: Don't know
PGA: There is no best right now and it is actually fun to watch again!

NFL -- Apologies to Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady.. but the best player in the NFL is the injured Peyton Manning.

Even though he's not currently playing... Peyton Manning. Yes, Peyton is the four time NFL MVP.

The Colts have gone years undefeated (9-0, 12-0 during stretches of the season) with him playing..

With him not playing, the Colts are winless.

NFL - Peyton Manning. This season proves it.
NBA - If it's not Kobe, and it isn't, it's Kevin Durant.
MLB - Albert Pujols
NHL - Sidney Crosby easily.
PGA - Who cares?
Soccer - As far as I know, Messi is unmatched.
Tennis - Can't argue against Djokovic. Nobody stands out in Womens.
Nascar - Who cares?

Ace Bandage

The one and only.
NBA: D-Rose
MLB: Pujols (I can say this because he'll be a Cub next year.)
NHL: Crosby
NFL: The Sheriff
Soccer: Irrelevant
Tennis: Irrelevant
PGA: Rory
IndyCar: Will Power (Fuck Dario and his wife.)

And yet the Pens still played so well and made postseason without him last year. :1orglaugh

Ignoring injuries...

NFL - Peyton Manning
NBA - As long as the league is locked out and the trophy is with the Mavs, Nowitzki
MLB - Pujols
NHL - Datsyuk. Yeah, I said it. He's a better two-way player than Crosby is.
PGA - There isn't really a standout right now.
Soccer - Messi, just because everyone else is saying him too.
Tennis - Djokovic
Nascar - not a sport

Their PP was garbage last year and Fleury was otherworldly. Crosby is easily the best player in the NHL. If it's not him, it's Datsyuk or Kesler, IMO. All three are dominant at each end of the ice, at any moment of the game and on the stat sheet.
