Best movie ever

Patrick_S

persona non grata
There is no such thing as the greatest movie ever made. When it comes to art everything is subjective. Here´s some of my alltime favourite movies.

A Clockwork Orange
The Godfather
Psycho
Citizen Kane
Alien
Some Like It Hot

amelie
citizen kane
fight club (great book, too)
seven samurai

there are so many great movies its hard to say what the best ever is. many movies, even movies one would consider "bad", are good for different reasons. for instance, "amelie" makes me feel great, "citizen kane" was directed so well and was revolutionary, "fightclub" speaks to me and is a great piece of social commentary, and "seven samurai" is so moving and way ahead of its time.
shawshank redemtion is amazing as well, and as a huge spiderman fan, 15yrs and counting, i thought the movies were fantastic. i can't see why people don't like them, is it because of the romance? thats a huge part of the character and many of the stories over the years.

and i just saw "walk the line" and i highly recommend it

Nice call on "Full Metal Jacket", but here's my top 5:

1. Unforgiven
2. Rosemary's Baby
3. Braveheart
4. Fargo
5. Glory

Blade Trilogy
Scarface
Underworld
The Warriors
The Wanderers
Beverley Hills cop Trilogy
Resident Evil 1 & 2
Terminator Trilogy
28 Days Later
Lock Stock N Two Smoking Barrels
Snatch
Mean Machine
Layer Cake
(No Specific Order)

Best movie ever? Howard the Duck!

Only kidding, some excellent nominations (Shawshank/Twelve Angry Men/Star Wars/Jaws)
I think I'll have to go with Shawshank. Although the original Batman movie with Adam West would be a very close second place.

What weighs 12oz, sits in a tree and is dangerous?
A sparrow with a machine gun!
That's right Robin

C'mon what other films have classic lines like that?

the shawshank redemption for me is the greatest movie ever made

fantastic believable performances from the whole cast
one of the most beautifully shot movies ever
the most amazing movie score you are ever likely to hear
the dialogue is like poetry in some of the scenes

Casablanca
The Godfather
MASH
Easy Rider
Serpico
Cleopatra
Ben Hur
Cinderella Man
Raging Bull
One Flew Over the Cookoos Nest

These are just a few of my favorites off the top of my head. I'm sure I could add more to the list if I thought about it for a few mins.

Impossible for me to pick up one movie only... My list of the best movies is:

Andrei Rublev (Russian, by A Tarkovsky)
The Valley of Bees (Czech, by F. Vlacil)
Marketa Lazarova (Czech, by F. Vlacil)
The Seventh Seal (by I. Bergman)
The Time of Violence (Bulgarian, by L. Staykov)
Once Upon a Time in the West (by S. Leone)
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (by S. Leone)
For a Few Dollars More (by S. Leone)
Kagemusha AKA The Shadow Warrior (by A. Kurosawa)
Magnificent Seven (by J. Sturges)
Duel (by S. Spielberg)
Dances with Wolves (by K. Kostner)
Don't Look Now (by N. Roeg)

There are ten+ I could list out, but I at a stretch I think I could say Magnolia is my favourite film. It is so beautifully directed by PT Anderson :)bowdown: ) that Tom Cruise seems like he can act and it's running time of over 3 hours is barely noticeable. It has an awesome soundtrack by Aimee Mann too.
I love films with lots of different sub-plots and ensemble casts, Magnolia for me is the best one. Has some beautiful imagery and themes throughout.

I said I'd keep it to one, but I'm gonna cheat by saying anything by Todd Solondz would come a close second.
