Best Free Antivirus Software

Can someone post a link to Avast's free link? I need an antivirus program as well. I have Panda right now but I don't know squat about computers.

Move..........explorer > google> search avast free> open first hit> install >run.
just watch what it installs, make sure only the virus program and not other stuff like google toolbar and crap like that.

after you use it for the first time unclick auto updates, it updates about twice a day and slows down the comp alot.

That sounds just like someone who doesn't think wearing a seat belt is necessary. It isn't until things go wrong and when they do go wrong it's bad news.

Having a good antivirus software doesn't mean one can surf the internet recklessly.

The problem is that some of the nasties are attached to quite innocent sites.Often placed there without the site owner's knowledge.It's not just restricted to shabby porn sites.
Many sites also place tracking cookies into your computer.They do no real damage but they report back the sites you visit.Other nasties are keyloggers and on it goes;they don't wreck the computer like a virus but they compromise your privacy and security. Don't even consider doing Internet banking without protection and even then add something like Rapport

Don't assume that Mac is virus proof-it most certainly is not.

They do, but very rarely. Virus/Malware writers rarely write their programs for both PC and Mac, as it involves going over almost the entire code. Same reason why PCs have so many more games. But Macs aren't immune, so it's best to have firewalls, scanners and anti-virus regardless of platform.
