Oh, great call !!! (I'll rep you when I can!)

He really has a fantastic voice, and I forgot all about this in the credits (or maybe I even missed it!).

This is right up there with My Bloody Valentine's fine cover of it...

...and as far as I know, there hasn't been a thread like this so far.

Good idea!

Violator79

Take a Hit, Spunker!
That's not a cover. That song's been around for a long time and people think Thin Lizzy made it, but they did their own version of it. So Metallica's version of the song likewise is not a cover, since no one knows how originally wrote the song.

Metallica- Turn The Page

Well technically its a cover then, as it wasn't originally written by Thin Lizzy, Metallica, The Dubliner's etc. I think it dates back to 17th century.

A song like Metallica's Turn The Page is a full blown cover, since we know Bob Seger made it. As for Whiskey In The Jar, it is NOT a cover, since no one knows who physically wrote the song. Every person or band that records Whiskey In The Jar is not making a cover, but their own version of it. If Bob Dylan wrote Whiskey In The Jar and Metallica remade it, then they would be covering Dylan's version. Understand now? Thank you.

Metallicas' version sounds a lot like Thin Lizzys' um,interpretation,it's just sped up slightly with heavier guitars.....

.....and it's better.

So basically,Metallica covered Thin Lizzys' cover of the song.

:D

I perfer Thin Lizzy's version. In my opinion Phil Lynott's voice sounds better singing the song. I also perfer the way the song is played in the Lizzy version.

Thank you.

Although I disagree about which is better, Lizzy's version rules!! Not really a big fan of Lars & co's version.
The Dubliners probably did the definitive version

Marlo Manson

Hello Sexy girl how your Toes doing?
Rage against the Machine ~ the Ghost of Tom Joad (originally done by Bruce Springsteen)

Ratm's version is better than Bruce Springsteen's version IMHO!

Rage against the Machine did several great covers on a CD called *Renegades*

Marilyn Manson ~ Surrender (originally done by Cheap Trick)

Deftones ~ Simple Man (originally done by Lynyrd Skynyrd)

Yeah yeah yeahs ~ Diamond Sea (originally done by Sonic Youth)

Fiona Apple ~ Across the Universe (originally done by The Beatles)

All of these songs have become some of my favorites! :D:bowdown::hatsoff:

Deranged - Paint It Black

Originally by the Rolling Stones. I don't like the RS by any means, but put them in hyperspeed with a badass Swedish DM band, and you have a good song.
