Not necessarily the most "world renowned," because those are only few (NY, Chi, LA, San Fran). Where exactly would you want to live? What city do you believe has the most admirable attributes (least crime, pollution, best educational system, health care, etc)? Of course most of us have not been to or even know of the standards in some of these world class cities, so feel free to opine.

Hard to say... DC is a definite NO, as is Philly. Chicago, Boston, Seattle, and one you didn't list Atlanta are some of my favorites. But "the best" is very subjective when you get to the cool cities. Honestly, many of my favorite American cities are not the huge ones, but the medium sized cities, like Austin, Tampa, etc.

I thought about listing Atl. This site gave me my ideas:

I liked Orlando a lot. Chicago is a great city too, I loved it there. Clean, big, lots to do..that's pretty much all I can say.

I'd like to visit Seattle and Portland too. I dig the vibe those places give out.

I've never been to barely anywhere in the USA, I've been around Maine and New Hampshire and liked it ok there, except there were a lot a fatties in Maine. I would guess somewhere in Hawaii is probably the best or maybe some small to mid sized city somewhere like Colorado or Texas, except Texas would have shitty schools. The north west seems alright as well.

Atlanta should be on this list. But I voted NYC.

Best city for what? Vacation? Permanent residence? You can't beat New Orleans for a weekend.

New Orleans...most original American City

1. New Orleans (when you get outside of Bourbon Street, you'll see why it is such a great city)
2. Austin, TX
3. Atlanta, GA

I've been to all but the California cities listed and can honestly say nothing beats NOLA

Fuck Austin. If anything, Houston (fourth largest city in the States) would have been listed. Shit, my sister and her husband were in Austin the last couple years.

I'm partial to my own city (Tampa) but of the choices, I guess I'd go with San Fran.

I'd also add my appreciation of New Orleans.

San Diego is the place I'd move if family wasn't a consideration though.

If you're just concerned with raising a family and being an employee = I agree with Seattle.

However, if you want to know what city is best to LIVE LIFE (food, music, entertainment, diverse culture, great history, friendly people, climate, slower pace of life pace of life), New Orleans can't be beat.

New Orleans has problems with crime, school system sucks in Louisiana, highest insurance rates in the nation, probably one of the worst states for tech jobs, but you will get the most out of life 8 days a week in all the surrounding neighborhoods of New Orleans CBD

Those cities listed are way too fucking cold to be hospitable (I've lived in Chicago / Philly....fuck that shit!)
