How does family ruin San Diego?

Yeah, I didn't state that well...I meant that San Diego is far from where my family is (Florida), so I wouldn't move there for that reason. Take that reason out, and I could see myself there.

OTOH, as I said, I love Tampa Bay.

If you're just concerned with raising a family and being an employee = I agree with Seattle.

However, if you want to know what city is best to LIVE LIFE (food, music, entertainment, diverse culture, great history, friendly people, climate, slower pace of life pace of life), New Orleans can't be beat.

New Orleans has problems with crime, school system sucks in Louisiana, highest insurance rates in the nation, probably one of the worst states for tech jobs, but you will get the most out of life 8 days a week in all the surrounding neighborhoods of New Orleans CBD

Those cities listed are way too fucking cold to be hospitable (I've lived in Chicago / Philly....fuck that shit!)

And the reasons highlighted above are the reason I didn't consider N'olans (believe me, I considered it) a world class city. It's a "world class" city, until you realize how gutter parts of it are. Katrina was obvious of that. No offense, just me :2 cents:

If you don't like cold, that's your problem. Some of the most beautiful places on the planet are "cold," and people live there for a reason. (But that's our secret.)

I wouldn't mind trying New York out.

My own criteria for best American city:

Weather
Food
History
Entertainment
Shopping
People
Nightlife
Scenery

My choice: Chicago

Chicago features all four seasons, and I love snow. With one of the most famous skylines in all the world, Chicago is one of the more beautiful big cities in the U.S. All of the major sports are represented, as well as top notch restaurants and bars. Chicago has a signature dish, a nickname, a history and reputation all its own. What other city boasts all of this and a freshwater lake with beaches?

Surprised to see Seattle and Chi' at the top. No NYers here???

My mom's whole family is from IL and I've been to Chi' but it's been a minute. I need to get back there and get a Blackhawks game in or a Wrigley. Aside from another wedding or my music career taking off, I don't know when I will get back that way. Peroria is alright. There was a visible ghetto there that displeased me. We always loved going to Bloomington where family is. Rockford is alright. Illinois is alright. Much better than Wisconsin or Ohio. I'll be back in a minute.

Re: Best American city

It's hard to say with any certainty, I make this claim after taking into account the fact that the city of my birth has effectively doubled it's rate of homicide from the previous year and there's still 2 full months to go!

√Homicides for all of 2010 in this city that shall go unnamed : 20

√Homicides to date in the same city as listed above from Jan. 1, 2011 to Oct. 29, 2011, a staggering 39!

I report this sorta tongue-n-cheekedly :p

San Diego is great, BTW!

My sister's best friend from HS is in San Diego (as is Plump Rump!) and I've heard good things about. Though I'd hate to be the gringo there when Occupy SD comes into play. :cthulhu:

New Orleans...most original American City

Not really. Katrina was original. ;)

I wouldn't mind trying New York out.
