Ben Stein : "Taxes are too low".

What people don't realize is that every economy is different. The recession we are experiencing now is caused by different factors than the one we had during the days of "Ronaldus Magnus". President Reagan did exactly what the counrty needed when he made those big tax cuts, but taxes are lower now, so tax cuts now probably won't have as big of an impact as they did back then.

The problem is that politicians have to speak in very general terms when they talk about the economy and their economic plans. If they don't, many people will get bored and just tune them out.

The challenges we face in the current economy are different than what we have seen in the past, so we will need some new ideas other than what has worked in the past. I don't believe that tax increases will do anything to stimulate the current economy. Going to a 90% tax rate like we had in the 50's would be disastrous because we would have even more people just give up.

Tax cuts will help some, but not like they did for President Reagan. What we need to do is come up with things that haven't been discussed by Mitt Romney or Barrack Hussein Obama. How about creating tax incentives for companies who do things that build up our economy? What we need to do is think outside the box.

For example, I've been saying for years that as long we have a single troop over in the Middle East, we should be getting free oil from whatever country we are helping out. Yes, FREE oil.

I believe that Barrack Hussein Obama has absolutely NO clue what to do, because all he is dealing with is a welfare mentality. That will get us nowhere. At the same time, when Mitt Romney is elected (and he will be) he will need to do more than just copy the genius of "Ronaldo Grande". He needs to do something that hasn't been done before because we are in an economy that is different than any we have ever seen. If he doesn't, he will just be another "Republicrat" like Bush who didn't get the job done either.

Something tells me there was a little bit of "slick" math being used to calculate these totals.

One of the reasons I don't like raising taxes is that once you let them get their hands into your pocket, you will never get it back out. They create a tax to pay for certain projects or to fill gaps but once these things are accomplished they don't repeal the tax.

Here's an example. The Verrazano Bridge tolls were only to pay for the construction of the bridge and then be removed. The MTA decided to keep the tolls in place to pay for funding for the rest of the transit system (busses, subway, suburban transit, etc.) The MTA keeps raising tolls on bridges and tunnels and transit fairs with little more service than before. The citizens who live there also pay them with subsidies form their county and city taxes. Their planned expenditures allow for $500 million in just overtime every year. That's 16,000 people they can hire at $30hr. That's just fucking crazy yet they get away with it year after year. Similar shit is happening everywhere.
